clewMy thoughts exactly.... how is this even in the Ultralight section? It seems like a bunch of people who simply want to buy something will vote to get a drop. Yet another good idea not moderated properly.

vyzr@clew and @vyzr - You're correct that these are not truly ultralight jackets, and by our definition the jacket should have a more appropriate name. However, this is a far lighter and simpler jacket than what is owned by 95% of the population. So for many people this is their first sub-1-pound shell. Next time, maybe they'll get a 12 or 9 ounce shell and I think of this jacket as a good first step.
I've been guiding for 10 years and am still surprised when my clients show up for a mountaineering trip with their 2.5 pound snowboard jacket because that's the best, or only, water/wind-proof shell that they own. I'd be happy if they pull out anything like the Marmot Minimalist or Precip.
Also, the Minimalist works really well for traveling because it doesn't look so "techy" as many lightweight shells.
I appreciate your input and hope that you can help educate our community on the benefits of going light, and the best gear to assist them in the progress. Start some polls, get your UL friends to vote on them, and I'll do my best to make that gear available. Check the link at the bottom of this post for sub 6-ounce WP/B hooded jackets.
