I have seen some confusion from people over the steel and the thumbstud. Maserin recently, in the last 1-2 years switched this knife from AUS8 to N690 I happen to have the AUS8 version and it is still great they knew how to make a good AUS8 blade I can only expect good things from N690 a steel they have used in many more knives. The older images show no thumbstud but there has always been the cutout in the handle for the thumbstud I believe original images were from an early prototype as I have never seen this model w/o a thumbstud. I love this knife and have had it for several years the knife is easy, at least for me, to flip open with the extended tang on the blade. The knife pivot can be easily tightened or loosened for desired ease/speed of flipping. I would say only negative I have for mine is the detent is somewhat weak and to achieve the desired action required loosing the pivot enough to result in being able to shake the blade out with strong force.
