This is from A.G. Russell's site. The Maserin site did not have information regarding the Damascus.
Maserin's® name for this little beauty is based on the appearance of the knife. It is a small frame-lock with an applied briarwood scale on both the obverse and reverse sides of the satin-finished stainless frame. Easily opens and closes with one hand. The blue anodized clip on the reverse side of the handle allows for right handed, tip down carry. At just 2-1/2" closed, the Turtle is just about as P.C. as you can get. The 1-9/16" drop point blade is either bead-blasted AUS-8 stainless at 57-59 Rc. or a beautiful stainless Damascus made from ATS-34 and 440A. Weighs 2.0 oz. Made in Italy.
This will be a better knife with a better version of aus8 (aus8a) and better tempered, awesome lock, better ergos, less than half the price. I have one and love it. Very thin behind the edge though makes it not hard use, despite the common perception. I open and shut mine single handed. Comes in different colors :)
This is a cool looking knife but I'm going to pass for a few reasons.
At 1.6" I'd say it is more a novelty knife than gentleman's carry. Cute and fun but not really useful for very much.
Branding on the blade is kind of ugly. The huge "Maserin" stamp ruins the classy aesthetic in my opinion.
Not a great value. $60 is a little too much for a tiny stainless steel frame with Aus 8 blade.
The Atti seems like a much more compelling knife from Maserin in this category. Nicer looking with a 2.75" more useful blade made from S35vn. Only $20-25 more. Given the existence of the Atti, I can't really see buying this one.
flowerman8I totally agree on the branding, particularly on such a small blade.
The atti is quite nice. I find the action on mine to be stiff but its a well made piece.
djprI've wanted an atti for a while but for whatever reason just haven't pulled the trigger. If it had front flipper action, I'd have bought one long ago.
Which handle did you get? How does it look in real life?
Too expensive for what it is. Especially considering it's a niche knife that you couldn't use for much in the way of knife work. I've never owned a Maserin, are they really well made? What justification are they using for this price point?
