this is snake-oil technology

BennosteveIt's just an adapter. If it works then how is it snake oil?

BennosteveYou must've had the foil pulled down over your ears if you cannot hear the audible difference between the two.

BennosteveI think the point of this specific product is that really sensitive IEMs can benefit from the lower noise generated by a balanced output than an Unbalanced. I'm not an IEM guy so I don't really care about it.

ELACasterThat would intuitively seem true but it isn’t as confirmed earlier in this thread.

ELACasterThe thx aaa 789 amplifier has three gain switches and the lowest gain should be best suited for iems. But if you have super sensitive iems like andromeda, you may fight certain amplifiers you will be capable of hearing hiss. The point of this product is to not remove hiss***, it's just a simple adapter to go from 2.5mm trrs balanced into xlr balanced, so you can use your portable iem or portable 2.5mm trrs headphone cables into xlr amplifiers. Otherwise someone will need to buy a separate xlr cable just to use an xlr amplifier unless they have a 2.5mm trrs then all they need is an adapter instead and this does nothing more. As for xlr. It may be capable of rejecting noise better in long cable runs and it may help remove ground loops because the grounds are separted.ect it will not fix hiss from what I have read. Now xlr on amplifiers do have the benefit oh providing more power and certain amplifiers implications like a fiio q1 mark ii in the way they design it will sound better than using it's single ended connection. The same can be said for the thx aaa 789, the way it's designed (does not have dual amplifiers in it) but people say it sounds better with the xlr headphone out. So in my opinion xlr on amplifiers is not snake oil. Now back to the hiss problem. If you have iems and have an issue like that you may want to invest into something like the ifi iematch accessory which actually does something for being an adapter. (Bennosteve probably thinks this is snake oil as well..........). What it can do is help in removing hiss while it helps amaplifiers have better dynamic range, also if the amplifier does not use a digital volume control and has channel imbalance at lower volumes this can also help for that. It can have distortion if you have it on ultra sensitivity if the headphone is hard to drive, but for me it works just fine on high sensitivity. And since I am in a little bit of a bad mood. Bennosteve you probably also think digital optical sounds no different than usb digial right? Well wrong you are there too sir/mam. On my powered speakers when not taking a headphone dac (dac from the computer) the computer's usb has more noise and thus if I use optical instead it sounds cleaner. Also if you go over to audio science reviews you will also find measurements showing that headphone dacs can also be noiser than using optical.
