Hey everyone,
I would really love to hear your input on how we can improve the box. we have discussed the lack of randomness and that things may have come across as misleading and these are my priorities for the next time we run this drop. However I would love to hear your input as to what else you would have liked to see, what would your dream box be?
Thanks for your help and feedback!

Henry_LHi. I appreciate your interest in improving this drop in the future. However, there are many of us disappointed now. Is there any consideration being given to what Massdrop can do to make this right for us?

Henry_LIt should be a random box. Or, you should state what the percentage of a product you are going to push out. If 90 percent is going to be from one set you should state that. From how the description looks. It looks more like there was a pool of items, and your total value would have been pulled from a random assortment of those items.
The vendor could have easily provided a sample box picture (with oath included) to show what the vast majority of us were getting. Also, tell us that the vast majority of us would be getting the same thing.
Be honest with the people who back the drops. Be more communicative as to what is going on. I joined drops that started after this one, and shipped before this one. What we got was just "true" enough not be be able to be disputed on a credit card, but not true to your customers.
I also think all of us would love to know the percentages of what was shipped out.
This is also Massdrop, not "Retaildrop". You guys should be as upset as us at the vendor. Like many of us have pointed out. We are only saving maybe 7 bucks on a 150 bucks. That means we saved less than 5%. If it is a drop you should be getting more value than what we were given here. I have done 11 other drops, and with all the others felt like I was getting a better bang for my buck.
We are your customers not the vendor. You are the vendor's customer. It doesn't feel like that relationship is being exhibited right now. It feels more like the vendor is your customer, and we are the product.
In the description it also mentions, "Along with rares and other premium cards, ". I don't think anyone who has posted yet has received any singles. There should have been singles.
If we are going to get jank, it shouldn't be included in the total value of the product shipped. It should be extra. If the vendor couldn't move it in the store. It shouldn't count as value in our boxes. My dice bag was already frayed pulling it out of the plastic bag.

Henry_LWill not be buying this drop again. Honestly I would not have purchased this if It didn't sound like I would be receiving or high chance of receiving SOI box I would have not bought even 1 of these drops. This is a complete failure in my opening and I might not buy from massdrop again after this. I feel tricked and violated, I was so excited to see my item shipped. But now I am dreading receiving it after seeing all these comments.

Henry_LVariety between boxes is absolutely one improvement that needs to be made. I feel bad for any individual who purchased 2 or more boxes having an expectation of "a collection of cool things you might not otherwise have purchased" and instead got 100% of the same stuff in every single box (No, I do not consider different colors to be a variety, they're the same things.)
Clarity in what could ACTUALLY be in the box. There have been Zero reported Commander Decks, Zero reported Dual Decks, Zero reported playmats, Zero large or premium deck boxes, Zero rares or premium singles. While saying something /might/ contain these things and then Zero of them do is /technically/ true it is also shady, misleading, and (as I'm sure you've ready over, and over, and over again) does not foster good will or repeat customers.
Value improvement, or at least perception, per tier. For example; all tiers mention a deck box and from what I've read everyone got the same deck box. I would like to see something more like $50 gets the Dex Protection Small, $100 gets the Dex Protection Large, and $150 gets a Flip'n'Tray with maybe a handful of Ark Wood Boxes peppered in. Same thing with the dice bags; from what I ready everyone got the same budget-to-mediocre (I haven't gotten mine so I can't say from first hand inspection) dice bag. I would rather see actual tiers: $50 gets the dice bag everyone got this time, $100 gets a larger bag of the same type or maybe a leather one of the same size, $150 gets the leather or maybe a bigger leather or even chainmail dice bag.
I would also like to echo the sentiment that something, actually something not just an apology, should be done to reimburse or "make good" on this drop. Obviously mistakes were made and if this will actually be a successful monthly drop or reoccur with success ever then Massdrop needs to take real steps to fix it.

CylvreThis is probably the best analysis of the situation thus far. Hopefully, Massdrop is paying attention. Seems unlikely at this point though.

Henry_LThe lack of randomness is what hurts here. We all thought we were gambling at the chance of getting something fun and unusual. But literally every person got the same package (albiet with a different color scheme) at the 150 level. The 100 level looks the same but just with 24 boosters less. This is a legitimate package of mtg goods that some people might have valued at 150 dollars. I do not, and would not have purchased it. If I had gotten this and others had gotten something cooler, I would have been fine with that, because I gambled and lost. That (according to all evidence) is not what happened here. We all just got fooled into buying unmovable product with zero possibility (other than the 3 bonus boxes) of getting something better. Your apology is appreciated, but without some sort of real restitution, this feels like Massdrop knew exactly what they were doing and they will do it again because magic players are addicts who are easy to take advantage of.

CylvreHey Cylvre,
Thanks for the well thought out and written response. Great points and possible solutions. I think these are great steps to take in making subsequent boxes much more random.
A question I have for you and everyone reading in regards to variety: Would you rather have more variety and interesting products with the chance of not getting a booster box, or always get a booster box and get less variety? The sealed MTG product represents a big chunk of the value in each box, so without it you could definitely get some more interesting things in there.
I suppose, more accurately, did most people who bought this box want to receive an interesting variety of accessories, or want to open some boosters?
Vote on the Angel for Sealed Product, and on the Devil for Accesories, feel free to pose any other ideas and I can edit this post to reflect their inclusion into this "poll"

Henry_LMore of a variety would be better than a crappy booster box (which you also have as a current drop for $85). Duel decks, playmats, singles, or even a variety of single booster packs would be nice. I'm with everyone else when they say this was a terrible drop. When all the products are added together I'm sure it doesn't add up to the $150. This will probably be my one and only drop. I expected a lot better product than what I received. I work hard to save for special purchases ( I'm sure everyone here feels the same) and this was by far the biggest waste of my money.

jhowell1030I see it differently. I see it as Massdrop gave Derium's the instructions to create a box with at least $150 worth of retail MSRP value. So, if you take a boster box from any current set that's $100. From there you just need to sprinkle in $50 worth of stuff that is somewhat usable (deck boxes, sleeves, binders) and stuff that is mostly useless (pop figure, dice pouch and cardboard crack book). Bam! There you have it. The problem here is that neither Massdrop or Derium's used their volume buying power to purchase GOOD things at enough of a discount to make it worth it. The obvious thing here is that the booster boxes should have been varied. I think we all would have been fin with the misc. stuff if we had seen some variation in booster boxes. At this point, I have no intention of buying another box or anything else from Massdrop at this time. I also intend to discourage others from joining on future drops. They way this has been handled is very disappointing.

Henry_LThe current offering wouldn't have been so disappointing if there had at least been variety within the type of item. For example, instead of giving EVERYONE a Garruk pop figure, there should have been a nice mix including all the other MTG pop figures. Instead of giving EVERYONE an OGW booster box, there should have been a decent mix including other recent (and maybe even not-so-recent) booster boxes. And it's extremely difficult to believe that we could have either a booster box OR more variety. The current market value for the stuff we all got is barely more than we paid for this drop.

Henry_LI think it's less about the knicknacks and more about the reason so many of us bought into the drop. The sales pitch sounded fun: at the $150 you would probably get a SOI box and then who knows what else. Instead you could have laundry-listed everything you packaged up, since everyone got the same stuff. If you'd been honest about what you were actually selling you wouldn't be seeing this backlash. People would know exactly what they were getting and some (like myself) would have passed on the drop, others would still buy it. And everyone would be happy.

Henry_LI agree with everyone else about the needing some kind of retribution for this fail on most every level. As far as additionans to this drop in the future I would scale each level to different skill of players. So the 50 is a taste of mtg the 100 is for the first step and the 150 is for diving into the deep end. Or do it like random multiplayer drafts. Idk anything would be better than this kangaroo trial.

Henry_LFirstly, there wasn't even any variety in the box that we got. If *literally* everyone gets a box from the same set, how is that in the spirit of a grab bag? Not to mention, it specifically referenced one set on the description page and NO ONE got a box of that set. Instead, everyone got the known-to-be-inferior-in-both-desirability-and value/price Oath of the Gatewatch. This whole exercise makes it feel as if someone went around making an MTG drop, throwing around 'randomness' and 'options' and 'possibility' in the descriptions while either knowing full-well that wasn't what was actually being offered or not knowing what those things mean. You should NOT be able to advertise a laundry list of things that a person 'could' get from one of these drops and literally send NOT ONE PERSON any of them. You shouldn't advertise products that NO ONE, AT ANY POINT, had a chance of getting.

Henry_LShove your poll and your dream box talk. Also, we already know what jank is in Oath, we don't need your condescending link. You shouldn't be defending this garbo drop. You should be apologizing and offering something to fix THIS ONE. Not trying to sell the next one. Ironically what would sell the next one is making THIS ONE right, by offering a concrete solution, other than polls, links and cheap talk of the next box.

Henry_LWhy should we be forced to wait until Wednesday? You should been working through the weekend to resolve the matter. Instead you post condescending links about what jank we can expect not to open in Oath, start stupid polls about how to improve the product NEXT TIME. No one here cares about next time. No one here will join the NEXT TIME until you fix it THIS TIME. Judging by what you did here https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-blue-box-magic-grab-bag/talk/430490?mode=guest_open&utm_source=sendgrid&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Discussion:+User+Replied. We're waiting until Wednesday for nothing. Since you basically told the people on this drop to screw off.
