As much as I like the aesthetics and pragmatic features of this flashlight, a month's use would awaken my fingers' allergic reaction to the brass. After that, I wouldn't be able to hold it without triggering a rash. If you offer a titanium version in a future drop, I'll happily buy it even if it costs a little more.
Sinbadj"What's wrong with the present ti-version?"
For one thing, I haven't found the Nichia 219 or The Cree XP-G2 version for less than $49. "Slightly less" ≠ nearly twice as much.
If you're asking why I might like Massdrop's take on a ti Lumintop instead of the standard ti version, then I have to assume your logic extends to your own choices: Why not buy the standard copper Lumintop instead of the Massdrop variant?
VarholiaglimpI personally think that if this exclusive light is offered again here, it won't be at $25. I think that was the 'hey world, were launching our first Massdrop designed EDC flashlight' price...
WTSHFT"Gotta love this from the Lumitop site regarding the Ti model 'completely poison-free' Definitely something I look for in an EDC light, haha"
If you were prone to contact dermititis, as I am, then the Ti version would be your only choice. "Poison" isn't the problem; nickel is.
Bobraz"I personally think that if this exclusive light is offered again here, it won't be at $25. I think that was the 'hey world, were launching our first Massdrop designed EDC flashlight' price..."
You could be right, but I've also seen many cases in which introductory prices for custom MD products became standard prices.
VarholiaglimpDid not see brass lumintop so far - just copper and no, nothing wrong with that one :-) Although I m looking forward to a flat copper tail - not nescessarily a switch, nor magnet, just flat..
Concerning prices: ordered one ti nichia for about 46 'coins' a week or 2 ago.
Did regret that when they showed up a week or so later for 36 (with code) and few days ago ordered one, silly me, for 31 (discountcode too)..
Just to fool the feeling that I payed to much before :-)
The cheapest I keep - to feel smart ;-)
The more expensive orders will be give aways - to feel good :-D
But it al comes down to fact that not a single one has been delivered yet :-))
Anyhow, those codes, obtained from site or forum, obviously can save you a substantial amount of hard earned money when shiny becomes collected!
VarholiaglimpI certainly hope it comes back at $25! It's just that I have a hunch that was a Massdrop introductory price, and not the retail price. But - for future buyers - let's hope my hunch is wrong 😆
MassD"The Ti version was on sale for $32 on Gearbest. And there's no 'standard brass Lumintop' in existence that I know of."
My mistake; I was looking at the copper version of the Lumintop, which comes in copper, titanium and black. I edited my comment to Sinbadj accordingly (in order not to mislead).
But thanks for the mention of the Gearbest. I'll watch for another sale.
VarholiaglimpI'm sorry if you took my post to be in any way related to your scenario. Yes, I agree with your needs and reasoning. My post was simply to get a chuckle out of something Lumitop wrote about their light on their website and not intended to relate to your post in any way. Sincere apologies if that's how you took it
SinbadjHey, thanks for the mention of the discount codes; I'll watch for those. Any recs?
I was actually thinking of a different metal -- copper -- so I took the word brass out of my original response in order not to mislead anyone.
WTSHFTI definitely wasn't offended, WTSHFT, but thanks for the clarification.
Blurbs that promise titanium products are "poison-free" are meant to indicate that people like me won't get red blisters from handling them repeatedly. (The wording is ridiculous, of course.)
Why does that matter? Only because the people at MD who decide on purchasing options should realize that one out of eight consumers react as I do to nickel.
Varholiaglimp"Even blurbs that promise titanium products are "poison-free" are trying to say that people like me won't get red blisters from handling them repeatedly. (The wording is ridiculous, of course.)"
I would never even have thought about that without your reply. I took it as 'our lights are safe to eat, but beware, others are not' I found that hilarious. Your interpretation is most likely correct, but not nearly as funny.
MassD"Actually, it's still available...."
Okay, so I'm confused:
"Regular Price:$48.29 You Save:$-30.71
$79.00 In stock"
You think they'd sell it at the regular price, instead of the sale price of $30.71 more?
(apologies, I seem to be very easily amused this morning)
WTSHFTNothing wrong with interpreting ad copy literally for fun instead of parsing sense out of it. We all play with words, I hope. But diabetics have to be able to read labels indicating which food is safe even if the wording is absurd.
MassD"[The Lumintop on Gearbest] should come to $32 if you use that discount code [LWIW] (not mine)."
Just tried it and the code definitely reduces the price to $31.99.
MassD"It should come to $32 if you use that discount code (not mine)."
I guessed that that might be the case (thanks for verifying, V) but seeing the promotional price higher than the regular price was just, well, funny. Funnier than those Amazon price reductions 'usually $31.44 now only $31.43!' you see fairly regularly.
VarholiaglimpIf its ok to mention: found codes at i.e. Budgetlightforum and Candlelightforums. Dont remember the specific ones but doesnt matter cause when I tried to order a second cheap one code appeared to be invalid..
Let Google give it a try.
Flat broke here :-) Feel lucky now with just one ordered brass Tool (forgot to mention earlier, Worm is produced in both Brass and Copper, we are talking Tool here :-)
And as far as I can see now al kinds of codes show up, Banggood, Gearbest, Ali, etc.
Happy digging!
WTSHFTI'm cryin' right now! XD
I genuinely enjoy reading good bad Engrish and poorly translated stuff... My hot air reflow station still has the bad Engrish warning stickers on it, cause they make me laugh everytime I read them! XD
BobrazI agree, I'd love to see copper and ti with all the same features and options, maybe sub a black clip and throw in a diffuser, but I doubt they'll be the same price as well. Hopefully pretty reasonable though!
