While I appreciate Massdrop designing a product that fits the needs of the community....I'm a bit shocked at the price. This unit is 2x what it should cost considering it's not solid wood, it's fake leather, the lid is plastic and not glass and the interior material is microfiber which is pretty cheap.
There are tons of products out there that are similar, made of solid wood and have glass tops...for significantly less money.
Sorry but while this is a nicely design product it's completely if not outrageously overpriced for what it is.

SantiagoDracoI hope to see a lot of improvements made to this design in future drops. I also know I'll get some great usage out of this layout. So while I definitely agree the price is a bit extreme I'm still going to support the work in hopes we'll see more of this type of drop.

SantiagoDracoI agree it is a bit pricy. My concern is it is way to small for most folks and lacking in lots of products. Where does the zippo and Bic's go, how about spinners bottle openers, wallets and notebook sleeves, not to mention keys and keychain accessories? the market of how to hold my EDC when not on my body is a pretty empty space that leans toward jewelry and watches or guns and knives. I think at this price point it would be better as a leather lined metal box on the outside with a micro fiber liner on the inside. Its a good start but far from purchase able buy anybody that spends $100 per knife and so on. The competition under $30 2 day shipping you can do better Massdrop ... https://www.amazon.com/Stock-Your-Home-Organizer-Accessories/dp/B000VFHGP6/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1524693338&sr=8-7&keywords=edc+tray

numonixI bought that exact organizer last year, and ended up using it for medium-term storage. For my 12 EDC items, I'm happy with the Maxpedition Travel Tray, which has the great advantage of keeping me organized in the same way whether I'm at home or on a trip.
Neither is all that fancy, but they serve their function perfectly: I know exactly where to store and find my stuff.

techmattrI hope to see more improvements as well.... however I can't support a drop that is clearly overpriced simply because of a hope that the future will be better. All supporting this drop will do is show Massdrop that they can have overseas companies build inexpensive products and charge a huge markup because we've come to "trust" Massdrop to give us good products at a good price. It's no different than what Amazon has done by changing their approach to sales from vetted products (ie shipped and sold by Amazon) to essentially becoming a gateway for cheap Chinese products to the USA leveraging the trust Amazon established in the past.
I have no doubt that Massdrop wants to develop and sell desirable products. However I think that Massdrop is a lot less about the proposition that when buying from Massdrop you are using your group buying power to get exceptional value but now it's becoming "we have an audience that trusts the Massdrop name now it's time to milk that for higher profits.
I'm ALL FOR companies making profits, and I held Massdrop in high regard (and recommended it regularly to my friends) but of late I'm much less enamored and this drop is imo an example of why.
It could very well be that Massdrop is paying a high price for the product and their margin is low (like it probably is for a lot of drops that are exceptional values here...now or in the past) but even if that's the case it doesn't change the fact that this case is at least 2x more expensive than it should be based on the large number of similar products available elsewhere.
I hate to be negative but Massdrop provides these discussions to discuss this kind of thing and I hope that by pointing this out we'll see changes to bring products back in line with the promise Massdrop made when this site was formed.

SantiagoDracoExactly this! I don't own any knives but I do own a vast collection of spinning tops and glass marbles that I'd like to show off, modular design would be MUCH better.
Acrylic is so scratch prone that it'd look bad 1 week in, come on Massdrop, we know you can do much better.

SantiagoDracoExactly right plus the group buying power has lost so much of its value when you can find the same thing for a better price elsewhere on so many of these drops. Always be checking!
