Will the gold chip?

It is polished brass with a clear coating on it. As the coating wears, those areas will start to patina.

Naphtha, also commonly known as "lighter fluid". Pretty generic name for any similar liquid flammable, made from a lighter, highly refined hydrocarbon; it's not a particular mixture. Stick with a fuel made specifically for liquid lighters, since they'll be more highly refined. Zippo and Ronsonol both make suitable fuels, which you can get from Amazon, Walmart, and probably your local gas station. I like Zippo's fuel. Relatively low odor, for naphtha. Avoid butane. It's different stuff, under high pressure. You won't be able to fill a standard Zippo insert with it.
