Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.

For people with similar problems and looking to troubleshoot, these are the things I tried
1. I tried unplugging the USB connection and then replugging it back in, at both the Computer port and SDAC port, with the CTH off, and still had problems connecting.
2. Went into the device manager, which surprisingly had the SDAC identified and showed a positive connection. I disabled it, uninstalled the drivers, re-enabled it and then manually installed the drivers. Still could not connect through the audio manager.
3. Restarted the PC. Upon restart, no signal.
4. Re-tried 1 and 2. Still would not recognize.
5. Unplugged the USB, and plugged it into a different port on the computer. Finally, the Audio manager recognized it.
6. Out of curiosity, plugged in my Schiit Modi M into the original USB port, and the PC recognized it just fine.
7. Got a USB hub and tried that with the SDAC and the Modi, Modi worked but SDAC did not.
I'm going to see if I have any other problems with the SDAC for the rest of the day, and if so then I will contact support.
I have a good feeling its the SDAC or the USB path or connection to it that is the culprit.
Massdrop is great and I agree with your statement below. I too own several of there collaborations and never had an issue. Very pleased in fact. Anytime there is a problem customer service is always quick to offer a fair if not great solution.
Thanks For the reply and rundown of your tests.
Like another user, I have noticed I need to be a little careful where I place the unit so I don't pick up any interference. BUT the system is very resistant to any physical vibrations impacting sounds (Not true with my Schiit Stack, so very happy there).
Pairs great with my HD6XX and DT1990. Makes my TH-X00 EB extraordinarily dark, which I actually like as a complement to some of my brighter phones. Overall, very pleased with the Hybrid performance!
Sidenote: While waiting for the iLink cable to arrive I stacked the LCX with the Yulong DA9 with Cardas RCA interconnects and Oh My!!!!!!!!! The Cavalli collaborations are really great pieces of gear. At that price point truly hard to beat. Both have impressed me but the LCX is special. It pairs so well with everything I have paired it with. So clean and powerful. Worth every penny. If you want a great stand alone amp I think it would be hard to beat. Especially at $300.
The LCX sounds great with all DACs I’ve tried so I have no issue using it with another setup. And the CTH+SDAC sounds good on it’s own. So I’m not too worried about it.
For some odd reason there is a lot of interference/distortion/hiss when connected to the 3.5mm port on the back of the CTH. Not a problem when using the SDAC with the LCX either. So I think it might be interference from the 3.5mm jack and nothing to do with the SDAC. Only when listening to the CTH +SDAC while the 3.5 to RCA is connected at both ends or with 3.5mm still in CTH+SDAC. Same cable new Cardas iLink cable.
Saturday for several hours it did work properly. Sunday I tried several times and couldn’t get the distortion to stop unless it was completely disconnected from the 3.5mm port the back of the CTH.
Thanks for the help CEE_TEE. And if I find a solution or it does start working in the future I will let you know. I really appreciate the help. Certainly not disappointed with either of my purchases.
EDIT: I am again listening to the CTH+SDAC, with no distortion or interference, while connected to the LCX with the new Cardas iLink cable. Clear as can be. Sounds incredible. We will see how long it lasts. Weird situation but just wanted everyone to know it is working fine once again.
For those that are not affected by the usb hub and or just need to reinstall the driver 1. Same as above. 2. If there is a need to uninstall all the driver from your pc start with the last connected usb port in a reverse order. For example if your pc has recognize SDAC, SDAC1 and SDAC2 e.g connected to usb port 1,2 & 3. 3. You will need to remove the driver starting from the SDAC2 and down to SDAC1. 4.When you reach the original SDAC driver, don't restart immediately. Instead shut down the pc and shut down any connected hub. 5. After shut down, unplug your SDAC from the pc and switch on the pc first and wait for your pc to be connected to the internet. You should only plug in the SDAC after the internet connection has been establish so that they could download the correct driver.
For those who has unrecognize driver I am not able help anyone with this issue if the above method does not work and your pc does not recognize the original SDAC driver. I too have the same issue before but somehow the pc just miraculously reconnected after a while.
Source: This is my experience from fixing the Massdrop Centrance DACPORT Slim which share the same issue as the SDAC. For the source of the problem it is an issue with the hardware and not the pc. Dont' bother fixing it yourself and just wait for a solution from the manufacturer. For the issue in the dacport it has been fixed through a firmware update (not driver update) so it no longer disconnect from the pc.
This problem can be replicated in my Centrance DACport Slim. What the manufacturer did is that they upgraded the firmware (not the driver) to make it less sensitive to this sort of spike thus keeping it from disconnecting. If I'm correct the SDAC probably does not have a firmware so the most likely fix is to replace something in the SDAC or to create a new isolation path for the power.
I hope that you will start replacing the affected unit once you have found a solution to the matter because I think the SDAC is a good DAC but the disconnection issue is a bit annoying.
