Why does this have a balanced headphone out, when it doesn't have a balanced signal in?

its not balanced. its a dummy port. basically its 4-pin XLR, and you can plug in your balanced headphones or 4pin to 2.5mm TRRS balanced adapters and connect without needing to reconvert them to the 6.3mm (1/4" jack) So it's wired unbalanced, but if you have gear that is already terminated in 4pin XLR Balanced, there is no need to use an adapter.

Convenience so you don't always have to rely on an adapter or different cable. I wish more companies did that in general TBH. It doesn't hurt anything and just makes life better for the consumer.
