ThatGuy333I'd guess it's the steel Brous has worked the most with or feels most confident machining and heat treating. D2 is a pretty good steel too, with the CPM-D2 version being a slight upgrade from that. Rust (but not stain) resistant in everyday use, outperforms most non-super-steels in rope cutting tests, and tough enough at it's optimal 62HRC to be reasonably impact and chip resistant with good blade geometry.
I'd say D2 is perfect for a folding knife like this, and probably keeps the price at an "affordable" level compared to if it was made with S90V or M390. It's also less difficult to sharpen, although probably still not what I'd call easy.
