One of my top headphones and I did not change anything on them, no mods. Not as detailed as HD6xx with XLR, but the T-X0 is very enjoyable. It requires a long burn-in because out of the box they were weirdly decent, and sometimes not. I did the burn-in trying to get them ready for modding at modhouse, then I noticed that they sounded much better than out of the box. So I decided to keep them and kept lisenning and comparing them to other headphones. The T-X0 has very nice detail acroos the frequency range and a wide soundstage. Sometimes, and with the right music, it feels like being in a cathedral/chamber listening to perfomers. I will buy the Argons mkIII but I am keeping the T-X0 unmodded to compare it to Argons. Currently running T-X0 on Schiit Magni 3 or Aune X7s with Schiit Moddi 2.

lotustigerNo Argons yet, I bought the T40s and I fell in love with them. Maybe the argons after I dump the T40s.

These sound like butt straight out of the box. Well... that's mostly an overstatement. I performed the mayflower mods using their $20 kit and they sounded worse, if anything. After reading an interminably long modding thread on head-fi, I bought Shure pads (I don't remember which ones, but shouldn't be too tough to find googling... NB: these are a *nightmare* to get onto the headphones). That COMPLETELY changed the sound. Great controlled bass, crisp and clear mids, decent highs. Good enough that they keep my HD-6xx at home (office is where I do most of my listening). My only regret is not taking more care in doing my mods. When properly modded, these phones are totally worth it. Listening via mac -> Schiit Fulla 2 (as DAC) -> Schiit Magni 3.

This time I bring you a limited edition headphones that have only been sold in Masdrop, have been 1900 units and are the Fostex X-T0. They have a very good construction and are almost entirely plastic, also has metal in the part that connects the drivers and the headband, and the headband has leather in the part that rests on our head and rubber with metal inside in the most external part.
search
They are magnetic planters, which means that they have a unique reproduction of the basses and a very fast response at all frequencies. They are of a semi-open type but they isolate well from the outside and we do not hear much of the music that we are hearing outside of the headphones. It has a 3.5mm removable cable, so any cable of the same diameter from other brands can be used, such as the one used by V-Moda.
search
They are based on the most modified in history, the Fostex T50RP, and even use the same drivers. The headphones are very comfortable although they are not exactly light, so if you tilt your head forward or backward they will slide and fall. Even so the pads are very comfortable and are microperforated inside to make them breathe better.
search
The sound quality is good, although being semi open they are dark and they do not have the spatiality that would be open. The low and medium ones have a good presence, and the records have greater weight and are heard with greater intensity. And I have to tell you that with the use they have gained in quality in reproduction.
search
Also with these headphones they provide an adapter to 3.5 jack, and that is the output is 6.3, a detail to thank. The cable is of quality although it is not braided but of rubber and its thickness is the normal one in any cable that you can buy.
search
So these are very good quality headphones with a good sound that you can not buy unless you do it second-hand, and if you're interested I'll tell you that its value was $ 156. And if you buy them second-hand or otherwise I recommend using an amplifier to be able to squeeze them to the maximum, although they have an impedance of 50 ohms, so they work perfectly on your smartphone.

Pretty cool, but really amazing after being modded!
I prefer the way these look over regular Fostex stuff. Their sound is okay before being modded, definitely fast sounding due to being planar, but not great, kind of muddy. I sent them to Modhouse Audio to be transformed into an Argon. WOW!! Now they are my favorite go-to headphones!! I still have a 6XX and love it too, but the Argons are crazy good!

Buy a used mrkII or mrkIII t20 or t50 instead of this. If you’re feeling really in need of a mod take your used t20 or t50 and send it over to Modhouse for the Argon mod and be done with the Fostex planar.

I sold these long ago.. Based on memory, despite having more than ample amplification for them (at the time, El Amp by JDS Labs and Magni 2 Uber), the most murky sounding headphones I've ever listened to. In my opinion, not worth buying if you're not going to shell out an additional 100+ USD to have them modified, which I wasn't willing to do. Instead, the money I got from selling them, I used to buy the HE-4XX, which turned out being a much better investment.
If it weren't for the modification potential, I'd give the T-X0 just one star. .. stock, it's just not a sound signature I liked--it lacked clarity, the bass was flabby, the midrange was super recessed , especially in the upper-range, making instruments and vocals sound distant. Overall, a very dull experience.
As for build quality--pretty good, except for the sliding mechanisms on the ear-cups, which were a bit loose.

I was excited to get these as my first planars, and the description in the drop was what I was looking for. These were intended to be my primary headphones at work being semi-open and comfortable for hours.
The build is pretty good. They feel solid and nice. I like the pads, and, although a bit stiff, the leather suspension strap feels good, too. My one complaint is that the sliders for the ear cups is slightly too loose and don't hold their adjustment. The cable is fine, nothing special. However, the 1/4 to 3.5 adapter that they include is just a terrible idea. Too much weight on the 3.5 mm end and is bound to break or damage your amp.
It seems like people either love the sound signature or find it too thick and veiled. I am firmly in the second camp. Initially, I thought it sounded "meh" but thought it might get better after burn-in and stopped thinking about it for a while. I tend to use these for webinars and listening to podcasts while at work so sound signature isn't front and center in those situations. When I got around to listening to music with them again, the sound had only marginally improved, and I had to start modding them. The standard combination of modeling clay around the drivers, cotton in the ear cups, and tweaking the ports did wonders and I'm able to listen to these cans happily. I'm sure it's not as good as the Argon mod, but it's good enough and an easy intro to headphone modding.

They seem well built. These are light, especially compared to some planar magnetics (cough Audeze). The stock hybrid pads are decent and certainly better than the crap that came with the t50rp line. The fact they now have a suspension strap is a massive positive, and it does a decent job at distributing weight however it's still quite stiff. If the suspension strap is leather then pigs can fly... Overall they sit nice on the head for extended periods. Not much to complain about. Nothing to write home about. Room for improvement but could certainly be worse. Let's get to the main part... the sound signature. I'm just going to go and say that these are a massive disappointment. Even after 200-odd hours of burn-in.... sound improved however they still just sound veiled all round, regardless of how much power I throw at them. The bass is thick and muddy. I gave them a chance and I really, really hate them. For the price, look elsewhere. It saddens me to say even Beats sound better. So, 1/5 is generous. Comfort is the only thing redeeming them from a 0/5.

Haulieni would stay away from any phones that are mainly massdrop community tuned like he 350, most of them are probably deaf.

I will keep it simple, most of these points will pertain to post-modhouse argon conversion
Pro's: -When modded into Argon's they sound truly incredible and better then anything in the $300 price range in my opinion. -They fit a niche for me personally, i dont like closed cans. They are mostly closed and isolate sound out and keep sound in well. -While being closed, they somehow have a sound stage that rivals some of the best open can headphone sound stages i have ever heard. It is possibly the widest even, although i think the K7XX may slightly have an edge. -Comfortable to wear for all day headphones. -Not Fatiguing.
Con's: -Require 120$ mod to sound anything better then average. -Require an absurd amount of power(before or after mod). Simply put your average Fiio will not power these.
I left this one off the list of cons since it is not a con of this headphone alone, but these do not sound good at all with a tube amp. These need a high power solid state amp. Alot of negative reviewers are using OTL Tube amps with terrible results. They arent 600 ohm cans.

The headphones are very comfortable. Build is quite nice for the price. Clarity and resolution are also very nice. Bass is quite present and resolved but does bleed into the mid-range. I have issues with the overall tuning of the headphone. The treble although present is too recessed giving a veiled or dark sound. I have tried different amps to see if they were under powered, even using the Fostex HP-A8C, there fails to be an improvement in the sound. If Fostex is to do another run of the T-XO I would listen to reviewers and adjust the tuning. I really like Fostex products in general, especially their headphone collaborations with Massdrop. Hope to see more Fostex in the future, in particular some of their headphone amps.
