Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

EDIT: As you mentioned, it is a limited edition. I joined the drop even already having a pair xD and the hd6xx (aka hd 650) can be purchased anytime so it's a hard decision :(
i was able to get the hd6xx serial 404
im in this drop but i may be ducking out. still on the fence.
All my headphones are plugged into a quality source, either my Schiit Joutenheim, or an Oppo HA-2SE, and audio files are either MP3 320kbps or FLAC. I own several pairs of planar cans ranging a from the Monoprice Monolith planar M560 and the second run of M1060, Fostex TR50RP MK II, and the Audeze LCD-2 and iSine 10. Planars from my experience are ultra resolving, almost to a fault, where any inconsistency in the audio track can be heard. The over the ear LCD-2 and the M1060 are quite heavy, so long term listening can be problematic since fatigue can be a factor if you are not built like a linebacker. The sound out of the planars is very warm and fluid, and provides an excellent sound stage with crystal clear highs, warm mids and deep bass. One thing all my planars lack is isolation, so listening to them in a noisy environment does not work well.
I also own a barrage of cans from almost any manufacturer you can think of. For comparison well use my HD650 and HD6xx cans (yes I do own both). The HD650 are really a joy to listen to. They produce almost as good of sound quality as my LCD-2, but at 1/3 the price since you can get them for a little north of $300 on Amazon these days. They are debatably my most comfortable headphones, and resolve increadbly well with a large soundstage. Where I find the HD650 lacks where the TR50RP excel is for complex music like Prog Metal. The TR50RP you can clearly hear every instrument and detail, and can keep up (when powered with a good amp) with the heavy instrumentation from multiple guitars, drums, and keys. Don't get me wrong, the HD650 do a nice job, there is just better separation out of planar cans.
Long story short, it may behoove you to have more than one set of cans for different music types. It really comes down to what you are listening to, and in what environment, and what kind of a source since any of these mid-range cans will exaserbate any recording flaws in any track.
Thank you for your valuable information. After reading your comment it's really hard for me to decide if I want to back down or not... I do tend to switch my headphones time to time depending on my mood, so I might want to give these a try...
Fun fact, you can use your Oppo as an external battery to power your phone on the go by pushing and holding the battery indicator button. This alone makes the Oppo indispensable since I travel often for work, with a lot of international travel.
I have the Joutenheim, and I am quite infatuated with it. The USB DAC is one of the best I have ever heard, and the amount of connection options is pretty impressive for the price point. It is also staggeringly powerful with a balanced connection. I never dial my volume pot past 3 out of 10 for my HD650s, and even then, it is uncomfortably loud at times on high gain.
"Love your post, voting with your wallet at it's finest. That said, I'm not answering your question because I want you to buy a K7XX, it's because you're right about the miss information floating around and I don't support alternative facts :p. Will there be more HD6XXs available? Yes, there will be more HD6XXs. When will there be more HD6XXs? We're working on that with Sennheiser right now. The demand for these headphones is massive, and it's a lot harder to find the time for 25,000 units of production than 5,000 units of production. With over 54k requests, we're trying to plan with Sennheiser so the next drop isn't gone as fast as the first. Will the HD6XX be the same price? That's what we're shooting for, but there is a possibility the price will have to increase. This is out of our control, all based on the prices Sennheiser gets from their suppliers. Will the website be able to handle the next launch? Yes. Following the 6XX launch, our engineering team overhauled our transaction system. Where it previously could only handle ~20 transactions per second, it can now handle several hundred per second. First drop took four years to prep, but we're hoping to improve on that for the second round "
So it could be up to a couple of years from now before we see another drop for the HD6XX. There is no promise of the same $200 price either. Hopefully it stays under $300.
I'll enjoy these T-X0 in the meanwhile.
Others are correct that they are quite heavy, so keep that in mind.
@Yakov Lucky you! I want'em both, but my wallet is filled with depression.
One could always paint them
