Very enjoyable if you like lively music
I am just getting into headphones since buying the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD6xx and Massdrop x Hifiman HE4xx. It's difficult reading reviews to quite imagine the sound others are listening to. So I was quite prepared for the bass on these headphones but I am most impressed by the clarity of the midrange. I like the soundstage of open-back headphones, but these still have me looking around occasionally to see where a sound is coming from on a recording I don't know. I listen to mostly Indie rock, folk and blues music and these suit me well for that, but just listening to some Mozart now and they are quite convincing, and they sounded amazing listening to Bach's Toccata in D Minor, where the Sennheiser were a bit too analytical. They look lovely (which is nice) and feel very comfortable to me (I have a moderate size head and ears). Comfort is very personal. I also have some B&W wireless P7 headphones which I like the sound of a lot but after a while they press on the top of my head, so I know how important it is, and that is something that is difficult to describe. These do feel quite large, but that is OK if you are sat down. They don't always move with your head like the Sennheiser do, partly because they are heavier and have less clamping force. I can't imagine wearing them out like Massdrop have in one of their photos - they are too large, the cable isn't really suited and I would worry about the finish on the cups getting damaged! The discounted EU price was £460 delivered so I was OK with that. Not all Massdrop items are a great price when bought and sent here to the UK. Overall very happy.
