I got my Ebony's 10 days ago and love them. However, I notice there is a problem with the cable susceptible to microphonics. Touching or rubbing the cable induces noise straight into the ear cups. When I turn my head, the cable rubs slightly on my shirt and a very annoying noise. Is this normal? Can anyone verify I didn't get a defective unit? I almost wish I got the Fostex 610's with removable cables, so I could swap it out. (I listen to classical)
Nah, same happens to me. It's a bit of a bother when I'm listening to quieter tracks, but not so bad that I regret getting them.
Also, in my experience (though I've yet to directly A/B them), the 610s are slightly more recessed in the midrange. I vaguely recall thinking they had a massive soundstage though, so they might be better for large orchestra. Trade-offs and compromise, I suppose. I DO plan on having someone who knows their way around a soldering iron do a detachable cable mod on my EBs though; the chunky cable aside, I can see myself using them as transportables.
This doesn't happen to mine.
Really? Seems a lot of people in these comments are complaining about the same thing.
If you don't hear it maybe you're one of the lucky ones as it seems like a common issue.
