How does this compare to the Mahagony? Less energetic? More energetic? More relaxed? Is it still a fun tuned headphone? I own the Mahogany and Purple Hearts.

SmoothDistortionHi, looking for the same answer. The vocals on the PHs are too distant - I end up increasing the volume to enjoy the music and that it makes it very fatiguing to listen within a short time . Looking for differences btw this and the EB. Are the vocals distant in the MHs as well?

Okyo993They're a bit recessed. Male vocals sound fine but female vocals are very lacking in presence. They also sound very congested compared to the Purple Hearts.

SmoothDistortionThanks! I will look for a comparison with EBs then. The FR graphs definitely don't paint the whole story. I actually thought MHs would be better in the mids dept.

Okyo993They are. It's just that the purple hearts are very well tuned for that heavily recessed mid range. It gives the illusion of a spacious sound but the truth is there's simply no nasal. First thought when using the Mahogany was it sounds like the purple hearts with a sinus cold and harsh treble not extending as well.

SmoothDistortionI see. Interesting. The other surprising thing I learnt about the MHs are that they are more bassiers than PHs according to many, even tho they are marketed to be the opposite.

SmoothDistortionHave you heard of any mods that could bring the vocals more forward? Been trying diff pads but so far no luck.

Okyo993Nope. Not really. The Ebony has a pretty liquid midrange. None of the models isolate vocals well. The biodynamic drivers of the TR-X00 series produce a stubborn tonality you can't escape from no matter what pads you try.
