What is the difference between FOSTEX TR-X00 and FOSTEX TH-X00 ? What is the difference between mahagony, ebony and purple hearts ? How is the bass of all them ? Which one is for deep bass ?

nick_tTX is the original version of these Fostex mods. The R in the TR edition stands for removable cables. Very similar connectors to the Sennheiser 6XX and 58X models only with reversed polarity (not compatible). There are noticeable differences in tone, sound and frequency with each of the wood cups based on make and composition. The Purple Hearts probably have the most impactful bass although the Mahogany and Ebony (closer to neutral) are less exaggerated. Either way, you are definitely getting a lively, V-shaped sound profile with these.

nick_tV-shaped vs U-shaped is all semantics, but yes, I suppose that would be more accurate. The Mahogany has more peaky treble, where the Ebony and PH feel a little more reigned in. I think the PH and Mahogany have more impactful bass and "color" at the cost of sounding less natural. The Ebony have the least withdrawn mids and best bass extension so if that's what you value, I would go with that. Quality of highs, mids, and low-end are all relative to each other. If they ever drop again, I would also consider the E-MU Teaks. SBAF measurements: Mahogany: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/fostex-th-x00-measurements-and-subjective-impressions.623/ Purpleheart: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/fostex-th-x00-purpleheart-measurements-and-quick-impressions.1681/ Ebony: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/massdrop-fostex-th-x00-ebony-measurements.2434/

devolutionarySo similar sound signature but just slight variant of the frequency response ? Have you even tried all TR-X00 ? Seems like the EBony is more for me. Which one has the most bass or quality ?

nick_tI own the Mahogany (in profile) and heard the EBs, but had this deal occurred last year I would have purchased those. I have other closed backs to attain a closer-to-neutral sound. Ebony probably has the the most controlled and audible bass extension (quantity=/=quality). Remember, they all use the same drivers, just different wood cups to adjust resonance. Wish they offered a kit to buy and swap all cups. ;)

devolutionary(quantity=/=quality) referring to Ebony ? Is the bass more emphasis than the Magohany and Purplehearts ? Which one has better bass ? So you have heard all three of them ?

nick_tHeard 2 of them (editted above). Since the PH have slightly recessed treble, the bass will seem most noticeable on those (warm). However from what I've researched there is a slight increase in bass extension on the Ebony's so they may hit lower frequencies. Less exaggerated too unless you're going for heavy bass/hiphop/dub (PH). Mahogany's probably have the most pronounced V shape due to treble though.
