I contact Massdrop support to ask if I can switch my PurpleHeart order to the Ebony. They wait until the day after the Ebony drop ends and then Massdrop support tells me the Ebony drop was too successful for me to get in on and it wouldn't be possible to switch. In all the products i've ever purchased i've never had such a bad experience as I have with Massdrop. WOW! They are terrible.
orlanderlvThis drop was annonced three weeks ago, and they where very clear that the would not cancel an earlier order. one week ago you fought against massdrop because they lost your order on the purplehearts. You could have chosen to see that as a win ( if you wanted the ebonys more ) I can agree that the reason for not beeing able to change is strange. But you should have expected the result.
Stoyan0When you consider how many folks already had a TH-X00 (Mahogany or Purpleheart) and purchased the Ebony anyway with the intent of selling whichever variation they liked less, my god has MD saturated the market. As much as I hate/despise it (and I friggin DO), their strategy of giving people as little info as possible and making them wait 4+ months for the product to ship has probably made this Massdrop's most successful Headphone product (maybe the K7XX, idk). Some people who purchased PH/M are now in on the Ebony because they can't control themselves, and I can't really blame them. I'm interested to see how future drops do and how long it will take MD to sell the 1210 Ebony cups they might still have on order. Even more so, I'm interested to know if the only true difference between the X00, 610, and Emu versions are the cups (and detachable cables on the 610). If that's true, Fostex are friggin evil geniuses. What worries me a bit is that some reviewers out there are saying the Purpleheart has LESS bass than the Mahogany and that the Ebony has far less bass than either. Meh, we'll all find out in a few weeks. My biggest take away from this process is that if I can't research a product, I probably shouldn't buy it. I feel for people like orlanderlv who've gotten the run around. It's been a rough couple months or waiting and hearing about new variations that I can't join.... because they're too successful hehe.
zbellsTo add to this, the frustrating part for new developments like the ebony - you have to do lots of investigating to find more than 1 "review" before the drop ends. I use "review" loosely because, for this drop, it's often just a 2 sentence description from people who've heard the thing for 1 minute. Hardly enough to make a $500 decision off of. Then we see that other graphs are different than the MD graphs and user impressions can be somewhat counter - as in the bass stuff you mentioned. I wouldn't fret over missing this because until those 375 buyers give us their thoughts I wouldn't feel confident in the ebony thx00 over another.
qua2kI don't understand the attraction of having a low serial number. This assumes the numbering system correlates with production (earlier production = lower ser#).
In a perfect world, all units in a production run would be of equal quality. However, humans learn, so we are usually better at the same task on the 900th attempt vs the 50th attempt. This should be true of the people assembling these THX00's.
That's why some people will not buy a car built in it's first year of production, giving the factory a year to get the "bugs" out.
The only real advantage of a low number is that it will be easier to remember.
InabitAgreed, I have a low serial number purpleheart coming, but I just jumped in early, not a big deal to me...
On a separate note, hard to tell because the picture is so small, but is that bike by any chance a peugeot px10?
jimpx10Waterford Bicycles R22. Steel frame. Great bike. Handmade in Waterford Wisconsin by the craftsmen that built the Schwinn Paramounts.
Richard Schwinn still runs the shop.
InabitConsidering its just a simple sticker and not engraved, doesn't make any sense to. My x00 were 22xx, then i bought the th610 online and got 0129 i assume thats good serial number who cares.
Vitsya818Thanks. How about the mid range. How is the bass quality in the TH610? Am I correct in assuming that the X00 has more bass quantity then the 610
justalistenerLets put it this way since im no audiophile, with amp dac on bass boost th610 does not reach the bass that thx00 has withOUT bass boost. But both are awesome though depending on what you are looking for. Definitely thx00 is an amazing deal for 400, was able to get the th610 for 550 on ebay new.
JJohanssonI guess I should have also mentioned I am a prominent member over at head-fi and have multiple posts in the TH-X00 thread over there. There have been many of us able to switch. Also, a customer support rep named "MB" lied by saying "the Ebony MassDrop is too successful to you to switch over". When I had issues with my order being lost, which a MassDrop manager contacted me and took care of personally, support was given over the weekend. One of the excuses as to why it was too late to switch to the Ebony drop was because I emailed support on a Friday and they didn't "work weekends". Lie after lie after lie.
Maybe you have some personal stake in the success of MassDrop but honestly, unless you have something constructive to say regarding people's issues with this (and other) drop then you need to STFU.
