Setup details: Running through Schiit audio Magni2/Modi2 amp/dac stack, using foobar on Windows 10 as source. Using both Schiit RCA and USB cables. Review: The Fostex Th-x00 is most certainly a V-shaped headphone, so keep that in mind when purchasing. These do not produce flat or neutral sound, they produce very bass-heavy sound. If that is what you are looking for, then these will deliver - I have never heard headphones with this much bass and no distortion. That being said I mostly like these, but do have a couple of gripes: 1. Midrange is too recessed. This likely has to do with the amount of bass, but I wish the vocals sounded more forward. 2. Fatigue. These are very fatiguing headphones. There is a slight sibilant whine in the treble, and the air pressure they put on your eardrums can also be uncomfortable. 3. Channel imbalance: There is a small channel imbalance in my pair, the right driver is louder than the left. If I turn the headphones around it switches sides.
I do like these headphones, but I simply can't enjoy them to their full extent based on these problems. I probably wouldn't purchase these again knowing what I know now.
