I own a pair of Senn HD600s and a pair of Audeze LCD2.1s Given the Fostex reputation and the price of the drop. I in for now. I keep reading impressions but am I really losing or gaining anything with these? $399 is still a lot of scratch for me as well as many others! Any thoughts?
Hard to compare them to the HD600. The HD600 has a 4kHz bump, which is exactly where these are least present. These have obviously much better bass. The HD600 has among the smoothest midranges, and these can't touch that. The HD600 beats them on soundstage. Essentially with the THX00 you're paying for best in class bass and a closed headphone. They're also easier to amp than the HD600. The LCD2.1 are similar in a lot of ways, but the THX00 is brighter at 8-10kHz. This makes the THX00 sound more energetic than the LCD2.1, but the LCD sounds a bit more refined and smoother. Soundstage the LCD and THX00 are close.
I'd say all three headphones do different things very well. As to which is better, it completely depends on your preferences.
I think if you are really interested in this one, you can buy it. Considering the parameter, this headphone needs a amp to provide a large current rather than a high voltage. Also, some people show their TH-X00,some of the headphone are fabulous, some have flaws
I own a Schitt Lyr and a Bifrost uberfied so I think I can power them properly. Not like I have a lot of money for something else! :-) I really like the people over at Schitt too. They have EXCELLENT customer service! I could NOT ask for anything better. While there are a lot of different Amps and such this is the best I can do for now! Thanks for the reply!
I own a Schitt Lyr and a Bifrost uberfied for my amp/dac so I think I can power them properly. My money is done at this point! :-) I really like the people over at Schitt too. They have EXCELLENT customer service! I could NOT ask for any better. There are a lot of Amps but having Schiit right in CA with super fast email reply and an EXCELLENT warranty! I am one of those people that is always going to be looking in on the super high end but never there so when I CAN find value I am there! I did not get the Hifiman drop since I already have the LCD 2.1s and to me at least they are too close and not worth it even though they are excellent cans. I have met Dr. Fang too a few times, he is a REALLY great guy to talk to!
LCD2 is a very fine set of cans (don't know about Hifiman), but 'supper high end'? Such description goes beyond stretching, at least. What would we label Stax and Abyss then? Or wait, there is Orpheus which will make my bank account $50K lighter....oh well :)
