Just received mine yesterday and spend a few hours last night on listening and break-in. Coming off AKG K7xx and Etymotic ER4S's with a 3db bass boost, my 5 minute 1st impression of the TH-X00 was "that's a LOT of bass, but where's the rest of the music"? After one album side, my ears acclimated. The midrange is there, but slightly recessed, the highs are present but not shrill. I hear a good amount of detail in the sound which is amazing when you consider that I was recently using the Ety's. Against the TH-X00, the K7xx gives a more spatial presentation of the music and it's bass quantity and detail nearly holds it's own. However, it doesn't come close to the Fostex for bass slam and visceral rumble. Looks-wise, the mahogany cups on mine are a medium brown, almost boring to look at until seen in direct light, when it lightens up dramatically with a pearlescent shine. The ear cushions are very snug around the ears - but remember, I'm acclimated to to the huge cushions on the AKG. Just my $.02 after 3 hours listening . . .
