TrilobitesTbqf, this headset would retail in the same price range as the th900's if it wasn't being dropped via MD.
From Linus, to Z reviews, everyone and their mothers can only praise these cans for their sound/build quality.

ArkhuA lot of the price of the TH900 comes from the urushi lacquer process (with platinum foil and platinum foil label) and the fact that it is time-consuming to do it and must be done by hand. The TH900 magnet is also more powerful at 1.5 Tesla. Sound quality isn't the only thing that goes into price. If you put the TH900 in the same cups as these, they would be slightly more expensive than the X00 due to the magnet and the fact that they're made in Japan and not China, but I think the TH600 is a better comparison for a price point than the TH900.

ArkhuI wish Fostex would take the internals of the TH900 and install them in same cups as the 900, just without the fancy paint. Then price accordingly !

lugnutWhat I would love is a series of these headphones in different exotic wood cups. Ah that would be glorious!

sq3rjickI don't believe I've read it anywhere. If the TH-900s are made in Japan, does that mean the frame and driver are made in Japan too? Or are they assembled in Japan, frame/drivers from China and cups from Japan?

SchmexyGod, the prices. I know some woods like Brazillian rosewood and pernumbuco are expensive, but... My only concern is the screws stripping the threads of the holes of the cup. Hence it's not something you'd swap regularly. Unless they do something along the lines of the Beyerdynamic Custom one pro, where you can insert different cups.

Buckbrickmahogany is nowhere near the (prohibitive) price of (indian or brazilian) rosewood or ebony (from my experience with hard woods used in guitar making).

SchmexyContact the E-MU rep that was linked to the E-MU headphone drop. He will sell you various wood cup sets for about $75 if I remember correctly. Ebony, rosewood, and teak. All alter the sound to some extent. Pretty good deal if you ask me. (Also, to clarify: the headphone drop I'm referring to were basically a TH-XXX model with E-MU branding and cups - hence the compatibility.)

aman1420Woah. Thanks now all i have to do is find out how to replace them! Also would be great if they made an "easy swap" Thing to replace the chambers without screws. Again Thanks!

SchmexySearch "thx00" on the headphones subreddit and one of the first results will be a post about switching the cups. From what I recall, it's almost as simple as just popping them off; you can always email the user of the post to find out how he did it (and he did do it multiple times with success). I'll see if I can find the post for you. Glad I could help :)
