Please make these with detachable cables like the TH610 and TH900 mk2.
E-MU teaks have detachable cables and purpleheart wood available too. I like these enough to not care about detachable because it's for home use anyway. It's a long wait to get a custom order in of E-MU but you'll still have it before a TH-X00 becomes detachable.
Even for home use, a detachable cable is more flexible and more preferable to a 3m long vacuum cord. Also, even though they're not fully closed, they'd be IMO they'd be pretty good for portable use.
Also, the trend with fostex products is detachable cables. Even the "red sexys" (th-900) come with a a detachable cable now with the mk2. Even though I really like these, I'd hate to drop 449+ shipping on these and they release a new revision of them with a detachable cable. $449 + shipping is not a small investment so I'd like to buy it right the first time.
don't put too much emphasis on detachable honestly. STAX electrostats are revered headphones and cost much more than this and they're permanently attached cables. i'm not gonna let attached cables prevent me from buying STAX
Buying new headphones is sort of pointless, you can get used TH-900s for like $800 sometimes while used TH-900 MK 2s are $1100 used.
I dont just want any headphone with purpleheart wood and a detachable cable. These could be somewhat good for portable use and I would take these out every now and again. Stax ear speakers are a totally different ball game and are fully open so it would definitely be limited to home use. And yes, I understand that the X00s are not fully closed but theyre closed enough IMO. Now I'm just repeating myself.
Why buy anything new then? Also I live in a country where the secondhand market is almost nonexistent so buying 'pointless' new is the only option most of the time.
i hear you. but seriously for me i would never bring them outside in fear of the wood exposure to UV lol. they just look too pretty to expose to any elements.
Well buying headphones new is kind of pointless cause they don't break down years later like cars. Headphones only have 1 moving part, 2 if you count both of the drivers. While a car has 1000s of parts.
People have told me the lacquer stops it, on Wikipedia it says the wood turns brown after years of sun exposure.
The wood's usually used to make floors, floors are exposed to the sun like 12 hours a day while these you would use for like 1 hour outside. I wouldn't because I don't want to get robbed.
@Eddy_Y Hey, I'll just have to disagree, these are definitely not portable. Don't believe everything what Zeos has said :P
I've had these for about 2 months and have tested pretty much everthing with them, using them daily for about 8 hours easily.
Not only they are semi open and the sound WILL leak from them, even at moderate listening levels, they are also quite bulky and the clamp force on those is pretty weak which means that if you try walking for some time with these, they will keep falling off, or at least move on your ears. Also, holy hell, as gorgeous as the lacquer cups are, I must say they are pretty fragile and I wouldn't take my X00s out even if they had a portable cable, wouldn't wanna risk them getting scratched or fucked completely.
Btw I know Zeos is obsessed with detachable cables, but it's seriously not such big of a deal when you have a set of headphones that are 100% used at home only where you can gently take care of them. The cable is very well built and thick, extremely durable and the length is pretty much perfect for moving around your room or laying down in bed and chilling out with these hooked to an amp.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't make the cable on these stop you from getting them if you really want them. It's sound and comfort that matters after all.
Just my two cents.
Stax's fixed cable is mostly for safety reasons. Their drivers require a bias voltage of 580 volt to run.
These Fostex would be terrible as portables! They're huge!
I'd rather they didn't increase the price for everyone just to add detachable cables.
E-mu only added $50 for detachable version . I would definitely pay $50 for that option. In fact I even ordered an emu on top of these lol.
It would be useful for bringing over to someone's house to have them listen to it, of for bringing them to work cause putting it in a bag requires too much effort.
Why would you buy 2 headphones that are so similar when there are so many other options?
Because purplehearts are pretty. And emu teak are also pretty lol. There are people that own all three fostex mahogany ebony and purple. It's a hobby. Some people own multiple thousand dollar amps and multiple thousand dollar headphones. It's a hobby.
Yeah, putting cables in a bag sure is tough 😜
Yeah like, I could understand TH-X00 and TH-900, or E-MU and TH-900 but you're buying headphones with only a slight difference. If I buy a second pair of headphones (I probably wont) it will be something with a huge soundstage to counter the TH-X00 I have that has no soundstage.
If you're interested in a small piece of laquered hardwood to stare at, there are less expensive options, but there are also many other pretty headphones! What about the listening?
Stax Lambdas are a great companion for the TH-X00.
Its a 10 foot long cable that you have to lead in with 2 hands, and the bag isn't that big.
These aren't portable headphones . That isn't their intended use.
But they can be. maybe not for public transport but have the 610 now and I take it with me in car sometimes and they're great.
Not saying you can't do it. I mean, you can carry a small 2.1 speaker system in your backpack and bump it if you want, but don't complain that it's lumpy and heavy and it hurts your back! Its not what it was meant for.
I have the 610. They'd weigh the same as the x00 with a detachable cable. They're not heavy at all. Bulky yes, but not heavy.
