A removable cable wasn't requested for the sake of being removable. It is so that we can replace them with other options. With this, it is worse then having them non-removable.

sykeKinda silly as Fostex offers several cables and balanced options. It's not as if they're not easily available. Pricey maybe but they exist. There are also cheaper options on eBay and elsewhere. This is a silly argument.

jaydunndidditYes, they do offer cables, and yes they're pricey; REAAALLLLY pricey. All these cables are just over £100 for cheap ones and much closer to in excess of £200 for original fostex cables. The point still stands and the argument is very much valid. But hopefully Fostex cables will become more readily available in the future as a result of this.

purplezorzI've seen balanced cables on eBay go for $120-150. Which I think is reasonable given the length and quality. The original Fostex cables are stupidly expensive (just like Sennheiser, HiFiman, etc.) but Moon Audio sells just the cable (https://www.moon-audio.com/fostex-th900-th600-headphone-replacement-cable.html) but you would have to source your own connectors. That's probably the cheapest route if cost is an issue. Either way, there are plenty of options.

purplezorzAlso, just found the connectors: http://www.furutech.com/2013/03/19/6094/ and https://www.ebay.com/itm/Furutech-FT-2PS-F-Sennheiser-Headphone-HD545-HD565-HD580-HD600-HD650-Plug/322861730343?hash=item4b2c0f0a27:g:uRUAAOSwytJZ~B~7.
So, about $63 for the connector and $50 for the cable. Again, the prices for the cables out there are reasonable considering the cost of the OEM parts. I'm sure you could cut costs somewhere if one was so inclined.

jaydunndidditIt's pretty pricey when sourcing all the individual parts, but these budget cables are perfect, even if I would get bent over due to shipping and import tax, it apparently does ship to the UK so there is an option for us. Good find!
If the Sennys really do work by reversing the way you put them in, then there's a nice and cheap option - https://en-uk.sennheiser.com/accessories--cable-3-m-35-mm-without-adapter
This isn't as pricey as the insanity that Fostex are charging. However, you're right, it's like if you damage the bumper of a £40K car, it'll cost a grand to fix.

purplezorzSadly, that cable you linked to won't work due to a pin length and polarity swapped. Someone on Headfi has already done the mod with the connectors I linked to and says they work well with a bit of modding and stay clicked into place: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/fostex-th900-impressions-discussion-thread.595683/page-996
Mind you, it doesn't look the prettiest but they work by shaving some of the extra material away since Fostex uses longer pins. But the best part is they work. I believe you can contact Fostex for their OEM plugs but from what others have said they're stupidly expensive which doesn't surprise me in the least.

jaydunndidditHmm, probably not something I would indulge in unless it was an emergency. Fortunately I'm not desperate for portable use (the only real reason I need a shorter cable) at the moment, so we'll see what the market produces in the future :)

sykeCables can be had on Amazon other websites that feature aftermarket cables for the 610 and 900, not a big deal.

purplezorzNot sure regarding other countries, just did some general internet searches, the fostex 610 and 900mk2 use the same system so cables are out there already, I even seen balanced trrs/.25 in. and others. Good prices too.

MufflertapeWhat prices? Stock cables are pretty pricey and OEM balanced cables are about $300. Anything aftermarket doesn't use stock connectors or cables so it's gamble on fit. Even the cheap stuff I linked to isn't 1:1 but it's cheap so many of us would bite the bullet anyhow.

jaydunndidditLike 20 to 60$ U.S. new fantasia is the brand, also I'm pretty sure we can get good deals from Periapt Cables, you just have to email a request, should still be relatively cheap.

MufflertapeRight, I linked to those prior. They don't use stock connectors so you have to be weary of polarity and them being loose and not clicking into place. Periapat is another option but still.on the expensive end. I also dont know if they use stock connectors which presents the same problems. They make an aftermarket connector that works but involved shaving the housing. It's ugly af but works equally to the stock cable sans the cost. The stock cable without connectors is readily available for relatively cheap at $50.

jaydunndidditOk, ill keep it in mind, just know that there is a good return policy on Amazon and I'm sure that periapt will stand by a product they will sell as well. I think the stock cable will be fine, I'm just after a portable cable, I'll pay money for it if needed lol just not 300 bucks.

MufflertapeYeah, they have options on eBay that are balanced for XLR or 2.5mm (which I prefer) but clock in around $120-$150 depending on length. I haven't emailed Periapt but may just to get a pricing quote. Otherwise, for what I need, $120 is about the cheapest I have found for non-OEM.

jaydunndidditCan confirm the cable is a snug fit, no polarity issues, the only issue is there is a small lip since it is a good fit just not as large on the outer shell as the headphone. Very pleased so far :)

MufflertapeThanks. In the process of ordering a shorter more manageable cable. The stock cable feels and looks nice but it coils and kinks in all the wrong places.

jaydunndidditHappy to help, I love the replacement(no kinks and super light) and the combo with my lgv20 is great, I'm a huge fan of how clean the purpleheart sounds(on tube, big change to solid state, treble murder for me).

MufflertapeI have the Ebony's but I use hybrid pads + attenuation rings and thoroughly enjoy them out of my MCTH + nano BL. They're much smoother than I would have ever thought and have just the right amount of impact and bass extension. So far, no ear piercing highs or sibilance. Despite having similar driver tech, they are quite different than my AQ Nightowls in a good way.

sykeI haven't tested them, but Lqi seems to make decent cables for a reasonable price ($170 + shipping for balanced xlr 6')
