Just submitted for a refund. At a certain point this whole exercise has just become ridiculous that massdrop and klymit can't even figure out how to get this done.
[Updated July 24, 2017]
Hi All - I have another update for you all. Everyone who opted-in early for the first round of shipments was shipped their pad . . . and then maybe an extra one. It seems that our friends at Klymit, in their rush to ship this out, accidentally double-shipped some. By now you should all have received an email from our team, kindly asking you to return the pad. We'll of course pay for shipping, and we'll send you a $5 coupon. Please consider that the second pad you received was actually intended for another member, who has been waiting just as long as you for their pad, and they will have to sleep on the dirt until they get their pad.
[Updated July 19, 2017]
Thank you all for communicating with us during the process of developing these pads. I'll be honest - our team here is not really set up to handle a drop like this, and we've struggled to promptly respond to every one with a consistent, accurate message. Much of that blame falls to me and so I am deeply sorry.
By now, most pads have been delivered. The last shipment will ship shortly, if it hasn't already. For the few people who have had issues with being cancelled off, thank you for your patience while we take care of you. We have received your comments to Community Service and will help you out, even if you get a generic response or slightly conflicting message the first time around.
There is one issue remaining - the Long/Wide pads have a bulge in the top chamber. It is about 3" thick there, whereas the rest of the pads is 2" thick. This is not a defect with just a few pads, as all of the Long pads are like this. We didn't realize the design would create a bump so pronounced. However, since the bulge is where a pillow would go, it actually is positive feature for some owners. I have slept on my Long pad four nights last week, and didn't notice the bulge once I had the pad properly inflated. That being said, this was not the intended design and so we have been working to come up with a fix for those of us who are displeased with the bulge.

Since the issue surfaced, the engineers at Klymit has been testing a way to add an extra seam (or baffle) in the middle of that bulge, effectively reducing it to about 2" thick. They can do this in their Utah facility and are confident in the results. I am working with my Community Service team to accommodate exchanges for those of you who are unhappy with your pad. To date only five people out of hundreds have asked for an exchange, just for reference. The adjusted pads may be shipped as early as this week or as late as next week. I was hoping to have them sent out by Monday but it looks like the manual process is more intensive than I originally thought. While we are processing these exchanges, please feel free to use your current pad even though you'll be returning it shortly. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding.
Thank you again,
Danny

[updated July 10]
To Those Who Joined This Drop,
**UPDATE - the pads started to ship on Friday, July 7. You should get tracking info in the next day or two. We've had about 75% of our members respond so far, with 100% of the respondents opting-in for the pads. We still need to reach the other 25% to confirm they still want the pad and we'll mail them out in the coming days. Thanks! **
I need you to check your inbox immediately as our Community Support Team is sending an email with instructions on how to still receive your pads. FTC regulations mandate that if our shipping is sufficiently delayed, then we must certify that you are still interested in buying the product. So, we have made a very easy Google opt-in form for you to stay in the drop. But YOU must act soon to keep your spot. Per FTC, the default is to cancel unless you opt in by a certain date.
The earlier you opt in, the earlier you should get your pad. We will ship out in intervals as we reach certain number of confirmations from you over the next two weeks. You have until July 12 to opt-in and our final shipment will be by July 18.
I recognize that this is an inconvenience to everyone - you have already been waiting patiently for several months for this, and if you haven't cancelled yet, it's a clear sign that you want to still get your pad. However, we must adhere to this law and are trying to make it as easy as possible for you. Our Community Support Team is aware of the situation and ready to handle any questions. I'll be monitoring the discussion here and will respond quickly to any of your questions, even over the holiday weekend.
For some background, we had an original ship date of June 2 but had to push that back to June 30. As of last week we were on track to receive the shipment from the factory when a slight delay overseas means that we can only ship next week at the earliest - just barely past the FTC deadline. It's prime backpacking season and I want to get these pads to you as soon as possible. So please check your email and follow the instruction for opting-in.
Thank you and please post any questions below.
-Danny
(the guy responsible for this pad . . . and the delay . . . and the bump in the Large pad)
FWIW - I was grumpy about the delay and communication frustrations, but to be honest, when I signed up, I hadn't taken into consideration that it is a brand new product. I feel bad for the folks who ordered the long version. I'm very happy with my regular pad. The flat valve is nice, there is nothing weird about the headrest, the pad inflated quickly and easily and was comfortable and quiet when I used it last weekend. It is hot as Hades now, so insulation isn't needed but I'm sure it will be fine later in the season.
Hey Everyone - the Regular sized pad is currently sold out and we'll have more in stock by the end of February (and likely earlier). In the mean time, the Short and Long versions are available.
And, if you haven't seen it yet, check out our upcoming double wide version! https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-klymit-ultralight-double-sleeping-pad
DannyMilksHow is the availability on the regular size now?
The page says the regular is not in stock, but the long and short are.
However in the "Join Drop" page, the long and short are not in stock, only the regular is in stock?
Please clarify. Thanks.
Edit: also see RedfishTheCat's comment.
DannyMilksHello Danny,
Can you please tell me when the 'long version' is available again? I really like to get this nice pad! Hope to hear from you.
Kind Regards,
Robin Sterk
My pad (size large) was delivered today (Wed. 7/12) at work. First impressions: Love the inflation and deflation valves, the non slip dots, and the overall size and dimensions. However, at the head end, there is what I would characterize as a triangle shaped chamber which when inflated is higher than the V-chambers on the rest of the pad, sort of a like a pillow/bump. Lying on my back, my head is on the "point" of the triangle and wants to roll left or right. Not stable or comfortable. If I scoot down the pad to avoid the bump, my feet come off the end of the pad. I usually sleep on my side with a Sea to Summit Pillow so I will need to play around with this some more at home to see whether it's something that can be worked around it but my first impression is that this pillow/bump is a bit of a non-functional annoyance not found on my other Klymit pads.
When you replied to woodcutter and the pic of a large, other words long and wide, pad WITHOUT THE BUMP, you words were " that is what the pad should look like". More credibility issues. Because now you say something entirely different. I am saddened I must say.
VajtagalTo clear up some confusion, the pad I have is actually the 'regular' size. I had it in my head that I ordered the 'large,' but after checking, it is indeed the 'regular' . Sorry for any confusion.
Hi Danny, I'm leaving on a snow trip on the 14th of July. I've opted in (within an hour or two) of the emails being sent out. It's almost 4pm in Utah now however my account still shows "No Response..." etc. I'm hoping my order will be shipped early this week (if not today) so I can receive it in time. My order is MD-34209-2018334. I also had my order cancelled incorrectly by Massdrop, and have had it reinstated.
Question - will we receive a notice via email (or some other notification) when our order ships? Will we be able to track it?
Thanks!
SequoiaGhostThe pads are going through Quality Control today and the first batch will ship tomorrow (Thursday) for those that have opted in by now. There is a technical glitch that has slowed your accounts from updating when you look at the transaction, but from our side it is updated. This will be fixed today as well.
Received this today in Canada (ordered Sep 20, delivered Oct 5th). Regular size. Weighed in at 488 grams on the nose with digital scales (without stuff sack). 10 breaths to blow up, deflates nice and quick too. As a side-sleeping 6'2" big guy this feels very comfy and wide-enough for me. Can't wait to take this out to the field. 1/3 the price of my Neoair X-lite and 1.2 extra R-value for only a 100 gram penalty is a good deal IMHO.
Ultralight_nerd"1/3 the price of my Neoair X-lite and 1.2 extra R-value for only a 100 gram penalty is a good deal " - that's what we were aiming for! Thanks for the quick review, and please post a pic of your next camping trip.
DannyMilksAlso great shipping cost to Canada. Between the exchange rate (USD/CAD) and huge cottage ultralight manufacturer shipping costs, Canadians really lose out. I find Massdrop really adds value to me by reducing that shipping cost. The product discounts really just help even out the exchange rate. I expect this is the same for other overseas customers too. Thanks for all you do @DannyMilks!
MassDrop, Thanks for keeping us informed in all areas. Also Tks for the $15 discount for out next MD order for the first delay but I think Klymit should reward our diligence on the second delay with a nice Klymit pillow to go with our new sleeping pad. MD has bent over backwards and I feel Klymit should step up a little as well. FYI, I'm opt- in and can't wait to try this new product. Tks M<>M
JustinFI'm sure they could think it out in favor of us valid customers. Maybe a different style pillow, seat or even a pad pump all around the same price point. Just making a suggestion in favor of us customers for Klymit to step up with MD already doing something for the X2 inconvenience. That's all.
I know I am saving up for a top quilt for the weight savings. But such is life, All the good things in life come with a expensive price tag. As far as the insulation on the bottom being wasted because you put the pad in it, yes it is but stated Above also is whether your laying or you have a pad in it the insulation is being reduced. All I was I was stating is that if you don't want to slip off your pad all night to try that. Comfort is key and these pads are very comfortable. Always remember the ground is colder than the pad. If you are falling off your pad it is serving you no purpose.
I had to do the same thing this weekend. I kept slipping off my Massdrop Klymit Static V Insulated Ultra Light pad, so I just put it inside my sleeping bag. I wished I would have waited for this new pad with the anti-slip coating and the new valves.
@DannyMilks Hey Danny seeing as you guys have a foot indoor at Klymit, would you please pitch the idea to Klymit to make a dry sack/pump like the Sea to summit Air Stream Dry Sack, because their current Rapid Air pump does the job, but only that one job. It would be nice to be able to use ones pump sack as dry storage for a sleeping quilt or something instead of just being dead weight.
Please, please, please :-)
So what will work with the Klymit? I heard that there's 5 different sizes of the flat style valve from an REI rep. Anyone know what size the valve is? This is a basic but important detail, seems to me it should be on there. Could this be added to the specs?
I got the "normal" double v (from here, actually) and the stuff sack is also a pump. Is it compatible with this single version, and/or has there been any movement on including a pump sack with this one?
Also, any chance of a wide regular?
