Please. If you are putting your computer case on the desk or having a lot of weight on the surface, you REALLY need to get a solid wood surface like [this work benchtop](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-72-in-Solid-Wood-Top-for-6-ft-Solid-Wood-Top-Workbench-G7200AS-US/206497844) made of SOLID WOOD.
Heavy and cumbersome? Yes. Will it warp over a span of a couple months because of stress? No. The saying "you always get for what you paid for" rings true too often. The plastics and certain items are really well built.
Don't cheap out, get the base and have fun building your own desktop.
