So, I belatedly realized that my headset's removable mic (HyperX Cloud 2) has the same kind of 3.5mm connector, so would it possibly be able to work with the modmic? It'd be a nice bump up in mic quality for sure.

beausymliterally i bought the audio splitter for my hyperx and a trrs 2m extension cord , and ditched the usb sound card . and the mic is 100x better already. just for your info.

beausymGlad it helped you, remember the extension cord should be trrs too. Amazon sells it for 5-6 $.
