I got mine and I'm wondering: What is the point of using the gain switch? For me, all it does is make it a little louder and add some distortion. I'm using AKG K7xx headphones and the O2 amp with a Dragonfly Red DAC/amp, which has 2.1 v output, so I chose the 1x/3.3x gain levels for the O2.
Is it supposed to sound a little distorted like that when I switch the gain on? The Dragonfly Red has an amp in it too, but Audioquest says the DFR can be used to feed a separate amp if the volume on the DFR is maxed. People call that "dac only mode" but it doesn't technically bypass the amp in the DFR.
The sound is definitely distorted when I turn on the gain switch. Any ideas?

HamrobesAre you sure you have the medium gain (1x/3.3x) version? Normally, the 3.3 gain used with the 2.1v output should not distort, since the O2 can manage up to a little over 7v and this configuration at max output happens to be at 6.93v. I have the DFR and the O2 (2.4x/6.5x version) and the O2 distorts big time on high gain, exceeding over 12v of output when the recommended limit is just over 7v...while the 2.4x gain level is A1 okay... Either case I would simply suggest to lower a bit the output of the DFR and your distorsion problem should be solved, and if not the problem is then something else.
