Would you benefit more with this item? Or a sound blaster Z sound card? I already have the soundcard, and debating whether or not I should get this for my Sennheiser 650s that are on the way.

Try with sound card first without enhancement. If it can't push the headphone to listenable, then only consider this.

Amp first. Those 650s can't be driven well with a standard headphone jack.

get THIS. far better quality than a Soundblaster card, and you can use it for non-computer applications and any other headphones you may own, even IEMs. You are not likely to tote your computer about with you just to use the sound card to run your headphones....but you can pick this little amp up and trot it off to another room with no difficulty. Use it with your mobile device. What EVER. You want something that can offer those 650's the adequate power to justify cash you spent on them by driving their sound quality with good clarity and stage. That being said.... you probably want a DAC between your computer and the amp...this is only an amplifier, no DAC. Pretty easy to find a DAC here, I am using the O2Amp/DAC combo device.
(which I am getting ready to review here on Massdrop tonight/tomorrow,BTW) I threw a review about this particular amp up in here about 18 weeks ago, if you care to do a bunch of scrolling, maybe it will give you some idea.
