I am new to audio and i need a DAC and Amp for my HD6XX which is pending delivery. I guess i am suffering from what some call "cognitive dissonance"; i read reviews i decide on what to buy after a while, i go through the reviews and forums and i come to a different decision. Whats the best value for money in terms of DAC and Amp for the HD6xx around $200.00. Considering Modi2/Magni3 for now. O2?
Is there anything that DOESN’T have lots of people denouncing it on reddit?
I have multiple items from Schiit. Never a problem with any of them.
mbofieIf I were you, I would probably get a nice DAC/amp combo, like the O2/Grace unit, or the JDS Labs Element. The 6XX is a warm headphone that sounds very excellent on solid state, and a nice “all-rounder” that doesn’t break your bank starting out is a smart idea. See what you like in the sound, and how that amp runs other headphones too, then you can diversify your gear in future endeavors. Spending up if you want is easier when you haven’t blown all your cash on the first outing.

My babied Asgard 2 developed a staticky, random sound out of nowhere after not using it for months. I e-mailed Schiit just to ask them about that weird electrical noise. They quickly replied with a few questions. I answered the questions and they gave me an RMA number and told me to send them the amp. When I picked it up a week later (I live in the Caribbean), it came with a new mainboard, meaning I got a new Asgard 2 inside the same chassis. Funnily, "provide fresh feet" was written by someone on the notes, so I also got new rubber feet...AND a new volume knob, because the old one had a tiny nick. Just two written e-mails and a week-long wait for a new amp seems like great customer support to me.

TiffanyPoodleslideThe Element has sparked my interest. Thanks for sharing. I'm not married to any brands, so I buy anything that I believe will be enjoyable!
raansire7Dude. You will TOTALLY love it. Has everything you can want in a solid state DAC/amp in its range,(get that DAC/amp version, absolutely), it looks FABULOUS on the desktop,(that ring around the volume knob LIGHTS UP!), and it has an excellent, transparent, smoothy powerful sound that will complement any set of cans,(short of demanding electrostatics), that you please to tun on it. You'd think I work for JDS Labs or something.... LOL! I don't, I just love their gear, and they are an excellent company where The Boss himself still replies directly to emails when there's a concern about a product.
p.s. I am not married to a specific brand either. I just now have a gear-set that works for me and I know my gear very well, try to share with folks who are trying to make intelligent purchasing decisions.

TiffanyPoodleslideHa-ha! Man, I am sold. I am sold!!! I'll order it next month when I receive my 4XX. If I don't like it, do expect a headphone-wearing horsehead at your doorstep! 😂
raansire7Oh, NO!
How 'bout this; I'm a horse-farmin' dude....can you just put the entire horse on the doorstep? That's certainly a long-game revenge, as horses ain't cheap.

lol! I'm not too worried.

TiffanyPoodleslideLOL at the entire horse! 😀
Dude, I just unboxed my Panasonic RP-HD10 I got from Amazon today. I am SO giddy, my ears are almost as teared up as my eyes. I've been yearning for festive-sounding cans like these for long, torturous years. What an exciting sound! Seriously, I'm so giddy now, I could cry a few tears of happiness.
What a lively sound out of my iPad Pro! No amp or DAC, and they sound punchy and lively! I can't believe it. I'm in a happy place right now. Even boring tracks I always skip sound more interesting through these! They have aural flaws, but those flaws contribute to their bright, cheery, detailed sound. Good God, thanks so much for giving us ears! đŸ•ŠïžđŸđŸ˜‡

mbofieAny product that gets a lot traction in the space is going to get a lot people knocking them down. There tends to be people that do not like their very tiny corner of the world being enlarged. Being a hardware engineer, I see this a lot from a small percentage of these engineers. Nit pickers, attacking the popular product. The thing that is too bad that is that Schitt could bring a suite of products to the market place that lowers the price point for solid well sounding products for EVERYONE. This is a good thing (maybe i am a hippie, i do not know, a hippie that will always buy an American built product for a higher cost).
That being said, the 02, from my research, and I had an early one, is a really a shit-hot product. I would Highly recommend it. I have not heard the Schitt Magni 3 product though, which is the equivalent product. I also have had good luck with the SMSL products. They are built in china, and provide no service though.
Try to see trends in what you read, and most importantly what people say about the SOUND, not how the damn thing looks from with test equiqment hooked up to it, or why it should not theoretically work.
coolerkingHeartily agree. The graphs aren't EARS. .....with a brain between them.
Excellent remarks! :)

TiffanyPoodleslideMan, I changed my mind and did not order the JDS Labs The Element. I know you like it and recommended it, but I started reading about it and did not desire it. Instead, I received today a Vali 2 from Schiit, my first hybrid tube amp ever, and a Shure SRH1840 from Music123.
Man...I'm blown away at how good they sound together. Without intending it, I'm hearing new things I never noticed before in my favorite tracks. Music sounds so...musical with this combo.
The Vali 2 presents everything almost in a holographic manner. I was not expecting that. I was like, "This thing will probably suck..." But upon first listen, man...I smiled! The RP-HD10 sound like open cans with it, and the SRH1840 sound like good speakers. It's weird to my brain.
Took me a while to adjust to the almost visual presentation. The Shures did not excite me, though. They have an almost boring sound like my Sennheiser HD 598 SE, but with less bass, better highs and more clarity...but still not sparkly enough for my preference. I'll probably keep them, because they sound smooth while being very revealing. It's such a weird-sounding headphone. I have buyer's remorse and at the same time I'm impressed even if they don't make me giddy.
