A tube DAC doesn't exist, tubes are for amps, a DAC is a completely separate thing.

Don't be ignorant. Tube DACs do exist and are a thing as seen here: http://www.doge.audio/products/tube-dac/doge-7-tube-dac/ and here: http://www.jolida.com/product/glass-fx-tube-dac-iii and even here: https://www.mav-audio.com/base/product/tube_magic_d1 or even here: https://www.underwoodhifi.com/modifications/fx-tube-dac.
There are also tube buffers and tube pre-amps.

The tube comes after the dac.

First, you say there are no tube DACs. Now, its the tube comes after the DAC? What does the latter have to do with anything? If you mean that these units have a DAC chip and an analogue board with a tube line stage then yes, you would be correct. They can take the converted signal from the DAC chip (e.g. Burr Brown) and run that through tubes without an op amp or any SS intervention so there isn't any digital filtering. This differs from a tube buffer and tube pre-amp so they're all different things. That's what makes a tube DAC a tube DAC.
Another prime example of a quality unit and internals to give you a better idea of what's going on: http://www.ankaudiokits.com/Non-Oversampling-Valve-Rectified-Tube-DAC.html.

The tube doesn't actually do anything to the digital signal though, that happens after the conversion to analog. Tube Dac is just a name for a dac/amp that uses a tube amplifier.

What? Don't be ignorant. Read above. The signal is passed through a seperate tube stage that doesn't have any SS intervention. No opamp or anything else. It's all done with the tubes. You're mistaken as a few of the units I listed don't even have amps.

You are misinformed. Tubes are used in the output stage of amplification or sometimes in the power supply. A tube is a analog device. That unit has a tube in it for sure but it's not in the input stage.

Yes, it does happen at that point but that doesn't diminish their claim that it's a tube DAC. It's working differently than a tube buffer or tube preamp. What they have according to the industry is a tube dac. It's not like I made up the phrase and definition but it also means I can't just change it if I don't agree with it as you are. This is what the industry has been calling a tube dac for decades. If such a thing doesn't exist then I'm sure you have a host of companies to contact and tell them that they're wrong since there's no such thing as a tube dac and that you know better than them.

I'm not debating the name. call it a what you like. I think the name "Tube Dac" is confusing for some people as they may think a tube is being used in the digital input.

But thats what theyre called. Thats the thing. Even if you do a search on this site for tube dac, several popup. To say that a tube dac doesn't exist is misleading. To say how they're a riff on a tube buffer or preamp but differs to the inclusion of a dac chip and a tube stage is apt. Really the only point is that the term is real and tube dacs are a thing. It's not as if I made it up.
