I requested to cancel over a week ago and it was approved, since the ship date was delayed.
I think they really screwed up here. Sure, production delays happen, but I don't think they took the right steps soon enough to avoid this significant delay. Why weren't a source of parts secured before the drop even ended? Such a wait on backordered components shouldn't have lasted this long, and I wonder why a solution wasn't presented sooner.
Still, kudos to MD for trying something new. Hopefully, they've learned something here and when they try again, it'll be a much better experience for everyone.
