this and the dac compared to shit modi uber and its pair?
GryphonAI'm debating that myself.
I like the all black of the Massdrop O2/ODAC - it would fit right in on my desk - and the price point is very good. The downside is that the Schiit Magni 2 Uber and Modi 2 Uber would give me all the connectivity that I require for a desktop set up. I have other sources that output coxaial and optical that I use regularly - perhaps even more than the computer. Of course, the Schiit M2/M2 combo is also 40% more (not including shipping).

Budget_AudiophileA lot of people think that these are essentially the same as the Schiit stack, but that was before they introduced the Magni/Modi 2. From what I've heard, the Magni 2 Uber is much better than the original Magni, which means that it's much better than the O2.
I personally can't compare, since my stack is a Modi 2 Uber -> Little Dot I+, but I say the Schiit stack is probably worth it over the O2/ODAC. At the very least, the Modi 2 Uber is the better choice if you want extra connectivity, and you could just stack the O2 on top of it if you wanted to get the cheaper headphone amp.

Budget_AudiophileConsider getting the Modi 2 Uber and the O2 amp. I had the O2 paired with the Bifrost Uber and it sounded great.
boulosThanks, Demize and Boulos!
From what I've read on headfi, the Magni and O2 sound similar (and Magni 2 is very similar to the original Magni all marketing aside) so it's mostly a matter of preference and connectivity, especially given the similar price point with this drop.
I think I'm going to get the Massdrop O2 Desktop for office use now and later add in a Modi 2 Uber (and perhaps Magni 2 Uber and reuse the O2 at home). I really like the look of the black finish on the Massdrop O2/ODAC and it would fit in better on my desk but it's around the same price as the Schiit M2/M2 once shipping is included on the latter and a few bucks more would get something that would serve me better for longer. I think the biggest argument for the M2U/M2U is the increased functionality, albiet at about 50% more total cost.
