Whoops yeah I need to edit my original post then because I read on the website they linked the same thing the revB used the TI chip...
Now I wonder which is really better the ESS Sabre ES9023 or AKM AK4490 found in the DACport Slim.
Also just found this, I know it is a very different unit but it if uses the same chip one could just get a 3.5mm to RCA adapter no?, but for $50 bucks that DAC uses the same chip apparently. http://www.amazon.com/HiFiMeDIY-Digital-Analog-Converter-Optical/dp/B00AOH5JTQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1445089936&sr=1-1&keywords=ES9023

m4rkbr0wnIf it helps making a decision, the AK4490 is what the new Schiit Bifrost is based on.

boulosWell I own the DACport Slim already from the first drop and love it I just like brand matching and I like the look of the stacked units I like stacking audio equipment.
I was just wondering would this be a downgrade or potentially an upgrade that would actually make me want to purchase it aside from wanting the look/same brand units... basically would it be worth the $120 they are asking which is $20 more than the DACport Slim.

m4rkbr0wnThe AKM is a bit more flexible at it supports higher bitrates (up to 192kHz). That itself doesn't make the DACport better. The implementation matters and I would worry about the DACport's choice of using a class A amplifier in a miniaturized solution. I own the Geek Out 1000 and I can honestly say that it isn't an ideal solution as it needs time to warm up to sound its best and can be a pain to use. The entire system is a start to end solution alone with DAC and amplifier built into a compact form factor, so while convenient, seems like a less flexible solution when broken down to components. The O2 and ODAC are matched to work together and the O2 can be used as a portable amplifier as needed. I just wish I knew what makes the ODAC so remarkable when all that is said and done it's just a 24bit-96kHz USB DAC. I already own a USB DAC which I picked up from ebay for 25 bucks and it too sports a ESS ES9023 chip and AUX out with USB power and supports the same 24/96. I wish I knew if this thing is worth it since I just put money down for the O2.

DeathbyMusicIt might be similar to the amazon link I posted ^ right?, the one you bought from ebay? How does the unit you purchased sound with the ESS ES9023?
Massdrop could we get a picture with the ODAC outside the enclosure?

m4rkbr0wnIt's not quite the same in appearance but yeah, it's a similar device. I don't have many DACs, just this, my E17 (old) and Geek Out. The Geek Out wins, hands down. But the the ESS dac is pretty great for such a cheap DAC. No distortions, the sound is clean and aside from the bit support the whole thing was an awesome buy at 25.
