Very neat design, but I still will have to take hard pass, for now. Might have to eat my words when the new designs come out. IMO, this is something that could've turned into a very good product, but falls flat on many levels as a flashlight. First off, needs a firefly mode, switching out batteries is a huge pain and anyone carrying a dedicated flashlight probably has a mild compulsion to use the least amount of power as possible to get the job done. Second, I think that Massdrop has taken wayyyyy too many customer suggestions, and should have tried to create a more unique design. Third, I don't care for the modularity. I would've liked to see an option for buying of 1 section, or 2 sections, or multiple different bodies. This will enable the buyer to more easily exchange parts in the future, or from a personal standpoint, buy 2 smaller flashlights. I don't want an extra segment of flashlight I won't use, but can't throw away. I have enough clutter as it is. But to end on a good note, this flashlight contains some great features, even without the modularity: Cu/Brass are often overlooked in place of Ti and Al, the pocket clip is awesome, titanium button allows easy color modifications, and has an LED option (which is often overlooked, and something I greatly appreciate). Definitely not pre-ordering, but definitely eagerly waiting for the next iteration for this drop, with additional options (hopefully Ti, and additional knurling patterns).

method_burgerWhy not have both segments so you can use the smaller version as your edc, but then when you need more light for MUCH longer time periods (emergencies, search and rescue, bug out bag) then you can throw in 2 RCR123 (rechargeable version) that is very convenient if you own the olight USB charger that can recharge any AA, AAA, C, D, RCR123, 18650 etc by putting one magnetic end on each side of the battery and it fast charges it in minutes and can be plugged in any USB port or battery pack. Or if you're at home I just toss my batteries in my Olight S1r Baton 2 light and toss it on the magnetic charger and in 20 minutes it's charged.

KiefofpoliceNot dinging the product at all, but I guess, it doesn't fit well with my system. My bugout bag always has 2 more powerful flashlight compared to my edc. Although everything is pre-loaded with rechargable(Ni-MH) batteries, and I only carry around with me non-rechargables, because they have a longer shelf-life. And I only use AA or AAA, since they are standard battery sizes, so in theory you can just scavenge for them since they are abundant. I don't prefer Li-ON; I don't carry a battery recharge kit with me, nor do I need the extra output or in an area with extreme temperatures. I just recharge my Ni-MH batteries at home every few months just before bed. Then again, a good power inverter would be the best, since you can just hook it up to any car battery and use that instead. Hm.... new idea.
