JijaYaninHey Jijayanin, thanks for your post. I've had the minus 33 expedition hoodie since 2012 (same with a few of our founding team, we bought them around the same time) and it's pretty great. I took my experience with the Expedition into the parts of this design I worked on with Kim. These are some of the resulting design choices:
First is the hood. We went for a relaxed, but fitted hood, meant to stay close to your head and still sit well with the overall silhouette of the design. The Expedition's hood is more of a Jedi Robe type hood, it's way oversized on me and I have a huge head. This is great if you're relaxing on the couch, but terrible if you're outside and need an actual hood to keep you warm, it catches the wind and flies off, even when it's cinched.
Second is the pockets. There are no internal pockets in the expedition hoodie, so organization is tough. Additionally, the walls on the back of the pockets (where the edge of your palm sits when it's in the pocket) are pretty low, making it easy for things to slip out. For the Peak, we added two internal pockets. A drop pocket on the inside of the right side (open top, easy access to your phone/device) and a zipper pocket on the inside of the left side (more secure, put some cash in here, your ID, etc). For the external hand pockets, we designed them to have high back walls, ensuring everything stays in your pockets.
Third is the overall cut, the Minus 33 is more of a blanket you zip up the front than a fitted garment. They may have changed the cut since I bought mine in 2012, but we wanted to avoid that and make something with a more flattering silhouette.
Last thing to consider in comparing these is materials and manufacture location. Personally, I don't care about where my goods are made, so long as they're produced to the highest quality standard possible. Additionally, I find it pretty frustrating to see posts saying "Everything made in China is crap", because that's wrong with xenophobic undertones. The Expedition is made in China, from merino sourced in China (at least in 2012, I don't see anything on their page that indicates otherwise though), where the Peak is made of the highest grade merino from Australia, and manufactured in Allentown, PA. This isn't a knock on China, they're just not the world renowned location for premium merino that Australia is.
$99's a killer deal for that, but it's a pretty different product with a pretty different resulting experience.

WillEverything you said is valid. I agree with your assessment of the Expedition. I still enjoy mine just wanted to share. I trust yours will be great based on your described improvements.

JijaYaninMinus33 means made in China (at least all of their stuff I've seen is), which is going to mean different things to different people. I'm not particularly jingoistic, but I prefer stuff made in the free world when I can, and I'm willing to pay a premium for that.
