I like it soooo much I ordered another to snap together with the first to make a comforter for my bed and a third for one of my sons. I would have ordered a fourth for my other son but I had already given him an EE Revelation for his 18th birthday. What do you give your son on his 18th birthday? A sleeping system and a kick out the door! What do you get him for graduating high school? A tent to put it in. Hahahaha
Pros: Price, simple design which leads to versatility, 850 fp duck/light weight, appears to be well made. Very packable to outdoor venues where temps start warm and end chilly or warm summer nights.
Questionables: 40 degree (would be debateable) 50 degrees would be reasonable. Granted everyone sleeps different hot or cold. (Full disclosure I've used it 3 consecutive nights with many more anticipated.) 2inch loft, if we are rounding up with the benefit of the doubt.
The following wish lists play into its versatility.
-Wish list: The ability to fasten/connect 2 blankets together (1 on top of the other) thus making the combined loft thicker and a more modular sleep system. (I'll probably be modifying it)
-Wish list: It had 13.5 oz of down at its current dimensions (which would really give it that 2 inch loft) and perhaps cost $12-$18 more. (I'll probably be modifying it)
-Wish list: at 6'1" and 215lb I wish it had 60 inch width vs. 54 (I knew this prior to buying); just wishing there was a wider version.
Used the blanket as a liner in a sleeping bag during a Scout Klondike campout. Good thing as the temp dropped to 16* and one of the tents was inadvertently left behind. I used a tarp as a wind proof bivy and with the bag and blanket remained warm thruout the night.
Just received my (color black) Pine quilt and if I could I would probably give 3.5 stars.
Pros: Seems well made, compresses down nicely, and included stuff sack is generously sized so stuffing is easy to do, weight promised is right on the money
Cons:
Not as much loft as advertised, even after putting in the dryer with no heat with a couple of tennis balls. It did loft up to a little more than 1 inch after this, so maybe it will eventually get to the stated spec. However, the amount of down overall seems to be sparse, with some areas having no down whatsoever without a lot of spreading, which decreases the loft overall. Time will tell, but I think this will be challenged to work at 50 degrees. I plan to use it to augment my light down bags, so it will likely work for that.
Size of my blanket is 51in W x 82in L, which is 3 and 4 inches less than promised respectfully. I would consider 1 inch each direction within the margin for error, but this is pushing it and is my main reason for lowering the score from a 4.
I'll live with the blanket, but to be honest, if I had to do over again I would probably have purchased one of the $60 down blankets on Amazon instead, which, if you can believe the reviews, is just as good for less money, considering the shortcomings of this blanket.
I received the product at with the dimensions of W49 x L82. This is significantly smaller than the advertised W 54 x L 86. I reached out to customer service and they told me the dimensions are correct and I can't exchange it for another blanket only return it. So be aware you will likely get a smaller than advertised blanket. Really disappointing with this experience.
I was a little hesitant to purchase this quilt at 54 inches wide however when I received it it was only 50 inches wide and had loose threads all over the seams. So now I am in the process of trying to get the product returned and get my money back. Two days and no response from customer service yet.
I bought mine when it dropped over a year ago but literally just used tested it last week on my deck in a 38F-45F rainy night. I slept comfy while wearing base layers and in my Borah Gear silnylon bivy. I used my Thermarest NeoAir Xtherm pad
I modified mine to mimic my EE Enigma OF quilt by purchasing pad straps and clips from EE. I sewed in the clips(by hand!) and it functions like my quilt. I'm going to add a snap or button between the footbox and the first button because I did feel some air coming in.
I'm quite disappointed about the blanket. It is understuffed and the 4ºC (40ºF) rating is very optimistic. I slept with the Pine blanket several nights: footbox closed, double layer tent, mat with R 3.5 rating, temperature around 15ºC (60ºF), dry circumstances (no condensation in the tent). It was cold. I needed 200 weight merino long underwear ánd my synthetic puffy jacket with hood in order to stay warm during the night. Beside that the blanket stinks, it has an unpleasant bird smell, especially if it gets a bit humid. Good points are the pleasant feel of the material and its well made.
Hey Marie, I'm a very cold sleeper too. I don't think the quilt is the only factor in chilly slumbers. Other possible considerations to cold sleeping at 60o could be eating enough fat, not sleeping on calorie-deficient and being warm before ever getting under the blanket, as down can only insulate heat and not generate it.
After spending a summer on the Kenai peninsula, I can honestly say this was one item of gear that really made my time there more bearable! I used not only with my Byers Hammock on excursions, but, as my primary blanket on a nightly basis.
It's extremely light and able to be packed down in a small stuff sack. That lightness and smoothness of the material can also be an issue when it keeps sliding off a bed, for example. Its also been repaired after a tear developed. However, even with all that, this former Eagle Scout and USAF Staff Sergeant gives this product two thumbs up for being exceptionally warm with flexible packing options.
