They sounded great until the broke after 1 year (and 4 days)
Update: Two weeks ago the right side developed a barely audible "twang" when I put them in. I didn't think much of it at first. It still worked fine. It definitely wasn't a problem warranting a return or anything. Then two days ago a whole section of the musical spectrum (the low end) disappeared in that right side. It was 4 days past the warranty period. I bought them on August 12, 2018 and that side died on August 16, 2019. Massdrop said, accurately enough, that I'm 4 days past the warranty period and they won't do anything. So if you don't want to spend $300 per year on IEMs like I apparently will now have to do, then I'd look elsewhere. Otherwise you can see my impressions below. I'm giving this 4 stars because I think the average new-to-IEMs consumer would give them. Personally, if I were only reporting for myself, I'd give them 3 stars. I'm mostly comparing them to my Earsonics SM64s, although I have the Klipsch X11s and Sennheiser 585s as well (and some other crappy cans/earbuds). I love my Earsonics as my daily drivers but I read really positive reviews of these iems, so I thought I'd give them a go. My real complaint is that the bass is just too bloated. The mid- and high-ends have good detail, but they often get drowned out by the bass. I tried them on my phone, on my FIIO X1 and the latter paired with a FIIO A1 amp as well (yes, it's time to upgrade these as well). I realized that the amp brings out too much bass. I like my phone or the X1. If you're new to the world if IEMs and you want a more "fun" sound rather than more analytical or reference sound, then you'll probably love these. They won't be the IEMS where you say "Wow, I've never heard that before!" in your favorite songs (unless you're coming from $20 earbuds I guess), but they provide full, quality sound. Iif you're coming from something like higher-end Etymotics, Shure, Klipsch, or Earsonics, however, then you're probably not going to have a good time with these. Also, the cable really is pretty bad. I read reviews and thought "how bad could it be?" It feels like it would go on a child's toy. I guess they saved money where the could (since people can easily upgrade the cable). I can't decide whether I want to sell these for a small loss or wait and see if they come alive when I upgrade my DAC & amp. All told, these weren't a game-changer over my Earsonics. They were a lateral move towards a different kind of sound with a loss of detail that saddens me. In retrospect, I'd probably just save the $300 and put them towards a game-changer set of headphones in another price-range. YMMV. Edit: So these have become my everyday headphones for about 6 months I guess. Recently I broke the pins in the cable for these and had to go back to my Earsonics. I was shocked at the clarity and detail of my Earsonics. It made me realize how bloated the midrange is on the Massdrop Plus. That said, the Massdrop Plus are more fun for metal music and have lower and more prominent bass for EDM. I now switch between the two depending on my mood and what music I'm listening to. Earsonics for classical and vocals and Massdrop Plus for metal and EDM. One day maybe I'll get those perfect end-game headphones that play everything just how I like it.

dingieHonestly, I've found my biggest complaint with this is the overly bright midrange with regards to electric guitars. They overpowering and push guitars too far forward when they shouldn't be. Take this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4S69MRHiuH0 (Honne - Baby You're Bad), the electric guitar at the 0:47 mark is supposed to be a subtle background chord, but with the MD+ its at the forefront.

dingieHow would you say it compares to the Klipsch X11? I'm looking at these as a possible upgrade IEM from those.
