can someone explain to me how much impedance matching the output source with the iems matters? I just got mine and currently mainly play off my mbp 15", and my oneplus 5. I'm not sure if its because of impedance matching, but it seems like audio quality is not nearly what i expected. I don't really know technical terms but it feels like vocals are not as sharp and rather muffled, and overall everything seems rather muffled. Coming from sennhesier momentum 2.0's which are admittedly over ears, it just seems like the only positive difference i notice is an increase in bass for sure. Otherwise, it seems like clarity is greatly reduced with these. Compared to my massdrop x nuforce edc's, I also feel like clarity is reduced, although admittedly the last time I used these was months ago (I lost them).
Could this be an issue with my pair, or an issue of impedance matching, or what? Sorry I am still getting my feet wet in the world of audiophiles, but I do definitely feel underwhelmed.
Your best bet is to keep output impedance under 1 ohm. Anything much higher and you can start experiencing what you're describing. I notice something similar when using straight out of my phone at 5-6 ohms compared to my amp/dac which is well under 1 ohm.
iFi iematch is a dongle that lowers output impedance
