if you are looking for an enjoyable headphone. One that is pleasant and pleasing to listen to after a long day at work, just get a pair of these. I have had mine since the end of 2016. I was able to jump into the original drop of the HD6xx. I have bought several other headphones throughout this time and I always ended up with these.
the 6xx lacks quantity in bass, but it does not lack quality. it has enough for genres like Jazz, not enough for other genres though. I am currently powering my 6xx through the Massdrop Liquid Carbon and it just such a beautiful pairing. There is zero fatigue. the liquid carbon adds a bit of umph on the bass too.
these are great headphones for vocals. Male & female
After almost 3 years of buying and selling headphones, these are still sitting on my desk, because I have not found a better value than these anywhere
From the painless ordering process to making sure that the product arrived on time professionally packaged, along with an invoice to the actual product itself - the HD 6XX - Wow! I have been listening to music for over 40 years and have never heard my music like this before. Little nuances that were never heard before come out here. Not like hearing it for the first time, but like hearing a different mix of the same song. Very impressive Drop, please give yourselves a big hand for making these beautiful headphones even more available for all to enjoy!
Open backs project sound both towards your ears and out the sides of the earpieces.
This makes the sound feel as if they are coming from further away. Good for replicating the directions of where each vocals and instruments are coming from; like at a concert. Close backs sound as if the music is coming from the centre of your head; you get less "directional" experience but they feel more intimate.
Open backs leak sound so if you are riding on public transport, the people sitting next to you might look at you sideways wonder why you are playing music for everyone around you.
Most high end headphones are open back so don't worry about losing any sound quality from the leakage!

Great but Flawed
These were my first audiophile headphones and while the sound quality is leagues better than my bluetooth headphones, they didn't blow me away like I was expecting. It definitely took some time to get used to the open-back design but now I simply cannot go back to closed-back as it sounds so unnatural and confined now.
The headphones are relatively lightweight and the build quality is solid but the clamp force is quite strong and prevented me from wearing it for extended periods of time. The proprietary connectors suck but cables shouldn't be an issue given the HD6XX series are probably the more popular audiophile headphone lineup and have been around for around 30 years at this point.
Overall, an inoffensive headphone that has withstood the test of time. A jack of all trades and master of none.
These were my first proper set of quality headphones that I ever bought. They sound great and are pretty comfortable. Listening to Amy Winehouse really made these shine!
At first I was very underwhelmed. This is my first pair of "audiophile" headphones. I owned Sony WH-1000XM2 and XM5, I used EQ to lower bass and was very satisfied. After upgrading my speaker setup to Triangle AIO TWIN the SONYs started sounding muffled.
Back to HD6XX at first they didn't sound as clear and defined as I hopped for, they lacked bass and weren't very interesting.
After first few days of listening/burn-in I started to notice more and more detail and warmth. I have no clue if they started to burn-in or my ears were getting adjusted to new more neutral sound of the headphone. I left them burning-in with some white/pink/brown noise overnight.
I love them now, lack of bass isn't bothering me, the low frequencies are still there, they just lack punch and slam, but are very detailed. The magic happens on well recorded tracks with vocals. HD6XX helped me understand how my room sounds and made me treat my room :D.
Overall it's an amazing pice of audio equipment for the price, it's easily more enjoyable than my $1k speakers for some tracks. If you only listen to electronic music with heavy bass maybe consider other headphone, they are still enjoyable but lack punch. If you listen to mix of music like jazz, soul, pop, rock it's an amazing headphone.
PS. force clamp is crazy, it can squish your eyeballs out ;)
First product that was not the generic headphone set from the local retail store, very pleased with his purchase, also does not break easily as I've dropped it numerous times
Really nice to listen to. I almost bought the HD600s, but opted for these as it was suggested the HD6xx is slightly softer sounding than the HD600. And for half the price. Really nice, expressive and not harsh. I would say very nicely balanced. I also like how they are good head huggers. What I mean by that is that they fit nicely on my slightly oversized head very well and do not cause fatigue. I can use them for hours. Sort of like being tucked in at night in a blanket.

Still happy.
These were my gateway into the audiophile world, so I don't have anything similar to compare them too. Coming from a phone and buds combo though, there is no comparison. They are an ear opening experience. Took a bit for the band to relax a bit to conform to my head, but they were never uncomfortable. Still happy with these after a few months of regular use. IMO well worth the money.
I've consistently used these headphones since 2019 and I've loved how they sound ever since. The 2 big cons that I've got are as follows:
The cable will eventually get ruined just by regular use and you'll get no audio going to the left ear anymore (common issue). I've purchased 2 cables already in the ~4.5 years I've owned these headphones.
Hairs can get in the driver really easily and cause an annoying buzzing noise whenever there's loud bass playing (also these headphones aren't great if you're looking for bass heavy headphones). They are however fairly easy to take apart and pluck the hairs out.
