Great build quality, Bright, good intro to soundstage
To start off these are great headphones, I'm simply going to work on reworking my previous and future reviews to actually follow the 5 star curve correctly. If you are getting these as your first semi serious purchase into personal audio you probably won't be disappointed and can probably stop with these outside of source & dac/amp equipment. If you listen to mostly top 100 and have the ability to drive these you will end up with a very bright and pretty good soundstage. I've taking time to power these via a schitt stack (Modi2U/Magni2U) and some various hybrid tube and portable amps. The do soften out and product a more neutral soundstage with the right pre-amp tubes which may make them better with orchestra, rock, and some other works that really do design their audio tracks to take advantage of a proper soundstage. They lose 1 star for the fact that if you simply want to power these unaided they won't sound much better than what you can find for $50US and sub-$50US.
When comparing these to other headphones I have (including other Drop purchases) is where they lose another star. They can compete with the AKG K533 Pros (now discontinued), but given the AKGs were only $120 (instead of $200 like the 6XX) and your phone can even drive them they win for use case. Attempting to compare them to non dynamic driver technology such as Planar Magnetic or Electrostatic and they also fall flat on their face. Sure they will win the cost battle against most PM or Stax clones, but if you look around the wider community or even here you will come across deals on insanely superior products in regards to range, response, and soundstage.
Overall I still recommend the product when its under $200 US (maybe check out the reviews of the Drop Jubilee's before deciding) if you want a solid product that you will only really use with a source/dac+amp that can drive them. If you can get ahold of a hifiman or fostex drop product though at a similar or lower pricepoint and want to delve into some research and modification you will though end up with a superior product (the T50RP drop collabs are a good starting reference).
Would recommend to a friend.
