Just buy it. Budget or Not.
I'll start by spoiling this review, my rating is 9.8/10, and at 200 dollars it's the most obvious headphone to buy. This was my first audiophile headphone, and since then I've purchased others in the sub 1,000 dollar range, and I have yet to find a better headphone. These headphones are flat, and have less vast soundstage compared to others, but it has fantastic detail that scales with the quality and power of your amp. I love the vocal intimacy of this headphone, its truly fantastic if you like vocals especially. This headphone runs great on tubes, I recommend a moderately expensive top of the line amp around 200-500 dollars, or a tube amp in that range. I originally bought these for $220 about 3 years ago, and paired them with a Fiio K5 Pro ($150) & Apple lightning dac ($10) (for mobile use with iPhone) this is a great budget combo, but a 150 dollar amp does not fully scale this headphone to max its performance. 3 years later I bought a 500 dollar tube amp the 'TA-22' and boy was I surprised to unlock potential for this headphone I didn't know existed before. I have not rolled my tubes yet so I'm excited for that too. Best headphone on a budget, and if you aren't on a budget you should also buy it as well as other headphones! I'm now highly interested in buying the HD600 and HD600s (each around $310) I've heard they are similar to the 6xx, with slight differences that I may or may not prefer, and any slight upgrade would be welcome!
