Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Currently powering them with a Magni 2 hooked up to a Fulla 2. I find that while amping can make a difference, that difference is much smaller than simply changing to a different pair of headphones.
On the plus side, resale value on these is an easy $200 + s/h or so, so you can probably sell em and not lose any money in the end.
I tried these headphones straight from a computer and a phone and, of course, they were just plain blah, but with proper amplification they produce a stereo image unlike any headphones I've ever heard. It even holds true with my NAD 1020 which had previously been identified as less than spectacular by +Danbstein (thanks Danbstein).
Just as impressive, the bass on these is the opposite of my original impression with poor amplification. With decent amplification the bass is astoundingly good! These are SO good on bass that I keep getting fooled/confused into thinking my subwoofer is on. I'm not sure how these headphones can make me feel the bass in my back and feet, but they do. It's more than just a neat trick, it really sounds great. Anyone who feels the bass on these is too soft should try hooking them up to a really good amp.
However, without at least a reasonably good mid-fi amp, these are not really fully working. I don't think even high quality portable amps would really be suitable for these. (If anyone knows of a suitable portable/pocket amp for these please let me know. ) Cheaper headphones, ones that are made to work with cellphones, sound better than the HD6XXs without solid desktop amplification. These are "must amp" headphones.
Needless to say, I am hearing things in my favorite songs that I never heard before too, so it's a little like getting a whole new record collection.
Thank you to everyone who replied to my original scared and confused post. I am through the woods and things on the other side are beautiful.
