All,
We have some long-awaited news and are excited to announce it as we celebrate our 5-year anniversary. The Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX heaphones will be available again on Monday, June 26th, 2017 at 6AM PT for $249.99 with free domestic and international shipping.
We will have 7,500 serialized units available for this drop and we understand that there will be questions regarding how we plan on handling the unprecedented demand that was seen last time. We are providing a detailed plan for this drop below.
First Access for Attempted Joiners of the Original Launch During the original launch, there were members who reached the checkout page but were unable to complete their transaction. These people would have secured a unit in the first run and we will be sending an email to these individuals titled “Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX: First Access” inviting them to have the first opportunity to join the drop. Starting Sunday June 25th at 12:00 PM (noon) PT, the members who are part of the first access will see an active drop that they’d be able to join.
All other members will continue to see an inactive drop until Monday, June 26th, 2017 at 6AM PT at which point the drop will become available to all members. Drop Details Each member will be limited to one unit of the HD 6XX. The drop will launch on Monday, June 26th at 6AM PT and will end on Wednesday, June 28th, at 11:59 pm PT. All units sold are expected to be delivered domestically by December 25th. We’ll have an estimated shipping date listed on the drop when we launch.
There has been a change to the countries we’re able to ship to between this drop and the last one. Please see the complete list of countries below (shipping will be free).
Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Belarus, Canada, Switzerland, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Finland, Faroe Islands, France, United Kingdom, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Mauritius, New Caledonia, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Peru, French Polynesia, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine, United States, Uruguay, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Cyprus, Israel, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey
Serialization All units of the HD 6XX that are produced are uniquely serialized. The first 5,000 were sold in the original launch and the serialization will continue for this drop.
Pricing Change While our goal was to bring the HD 6XX back at its original price, $250 was the most accessible price that Sennheiser made possible for us to provide.
Behind the Scenes There has been a lot of work behind the scenes to make this drop happen. Since the first launch this has been the most requested and talked about drop on the site, and Will has been working with Sennheiser to bring it back for the community. Big kudos to both the team here and Sennheiser for making this drop possible.
Simultaneously, our Engineering team has made many improvements to our transaction processing so that we can fully support the kind of surge in traffic and purchases that occurred during the first launch. We’ve tested these improvements with other launches and they went smoothly.
Given the demand of the HD 6XX, we still expect Monday’s launch to generate unprecedented traffic. While we expect the site to handle this, we’ll still have all hands on deck available to respond to any questions or challenges the community may have.
Of course, the ones putting in the most "behind the scenes" work have been you: the members of the Massdrop community. We’ve seen requests pile up on this drop and have been asked about it through emails and several discussion posts. A big thanks to the entire community for the support and for making this possible.
Edits 1. Edit made to the original post to include free domestic AND international shipping on this drop. 1. Edit made to the original post to include MORE countries where the drop will be shipping.

gabrielvisThese are comparable to the HD650s, which (to me) are a very noticeable improvement. Make sure you have an amp or sound card that supports 300 Ohm impedance, because these have a much higher power draw than the HD 558s.
BaskeI've confirmed that this drop will be free shipping for all the countries mentioned in the OP. (Europe will be free shipping)
Theta_ZeroYes, there won't be any duplicates from the previous drop.
OzbozIt'll be free shipping to Australia and everywhere this drop ships.

gabrielvisYes Noticeable to be honest. But depending on your taste in sound profile, you might like hd558 better. (none audiophile will most likely appreciate hd558 more cuz it is more fun to listen to since the sound sounds less natural).
For average users, I wouldn't recommend hd6xx as you need an amplifier to use it (that's another 100 dollars). If you don't it will sound worse than hd558. Besides hd6xx has 2 wires hanging off from both side so it gets annoying in my opinion.
I would probably just go for hd558 or hd598 (open or closed version doesn't really matter) if you are on budget (can get a good deal sometimes). If you are mixing, go for hd600 (Very neutral sound profile and great sound stage). HD6xx or 650 doesn't excel in many areas. (it has boosted bass... which isn't best for mixing. But more fun to listen to compared to hd600)
But regardless, it is like one of the best headphone to get if you are trying to get into audiophile world :D

kunalkumar@kunalkumar Was kinda hoping the price tag will not change so that we get the same treatment as the previous droppers. However I can see from the direction you guys and Sennheiser are looking from, therefore I will not go and complain (too much). :) What I do need the feel to say is that, from a consumer standpoint the bad side of this price is that there are HD650's available for around 350€/$ and above and the item is received in a matter of days/weeks. The changed price tag makes these less of a bargain especially due to the 6 months wait time to actually receive the item. So the big question is, if the 100€/$ is worth a 6 months of waiting for the headphones. Something to think about during the next few days... (rant over) :)
Edit: I somehow forgot about the VAT, since I am from Ireland, this than adds 21% to the price tag. Would be very pleased if somehow they can be delivered without being sent to US just so they can be shipped back to Ireland again. Assuming that they will be made in Ireland, and as shipping will be made by Massdrop from New Jersey. Well, wishful thinking was never prohibited... @kunalkumar

nubelaYes, this drop is limited to 7500 units.
monjourUnfortunately, we have to limit the drop to the list of countries mentioned in the OP. Some community members were looking into freight forwarding options and that could be an alternative.
maellenYeah, the second drop will only be available to ship to the countries listed in the original post. However, all shipping will be free. I've mentioned in some other posts about some community members looking into freight forwarding options to get their units and this could be considered.

kunalkumarGreat to see this drop coming back! Albeit with a 25% price bump. 1st bummer.
From what I understand, the First Access joiners will have priority to buy, thus making it near impossible for anyone else (non First Access) to get their hands on one. 2nd bummer.
Lastly, for the price of the Noble X, this would definitely fit a different role if you already own the Noble X. *at least I have this going for me.* =)

kunalkumarHi Kunal, I was wondering of some logistics. Myself and a friend both want to purchase a pair of these but live outside of area of shipping. I am planning on using a freight service to get it to my location. My question is, during purchase, would it be okay for both myself and my friend to use the same shipping info for the address as we plan on using the same service - for which I paid already, or would my friend need to provide a different address - i.e also apply for a freight service if they were to purchase these headphones.
Thanks in advance

OdinkoHD 650 some times drops to $325.00 US Dollars... for me its not a bargain any more. Remember that original has better constructions parts and better plastic around it. Also, there is no wire hanging around as well. Too bad $ 50.00 more Massdrop start to lose their shine...

elbebe1000Not true, on the construction of the HD6XX.
I have the HD6XX and as far as I can tell (based on handling and auditioning the HD650 at a bonafide Sennheiser retailer), these are the same built as the HD650.
Unless you can prove with photos of wires hanging, "better plastic" and etc, I hereby debunked your assertions on HD6XX.
Edit: for clarification.

loklok_2123For starters, I'm no audiophile and this would not be an apple-to-apple comparison at all.
After having the HD6XX for a while, I sold my Audeze EL8O. I prefer the sound from the HD6XX and I would wear it for longer period than the EL8O (heavy, my ears would have hot spots after a while). Plus, I keep going back to the HD6XX to simply enjoy my music.
As for the Noble X, for a dual BA construction, I find the overall sound signature more musical and I totally enjoy listening to it on the go. Sometimes I even use it at home although I have the HD6XX with me.
Recently I tried the Oppo HA-2SE with the Noble X and man, I want to listen to all my music again!
Bottom line, both serve a different purpose and you won't go wrong with either one. Cheers!

2die4um, while this is still a decent deal 650s havnt been anywhere near $500, and if they were it was an extremely long time ago. Hell 650s on amazon new are $315 and you can easily buy them off others used for $250 or less, seen some even selling at $200. This is still a decent deal at $250, but don't act like this is a complete steal anymore.

elbebe1000I guess you're just parroting the comments posted before and not a first hand experience, I can understand why you can't back your claims up.
The changes are colour scheme and if indeed any plastic has been altered from original to HD6XX, it doesn't make a difference except for those who's bitter it's not priced at $199 and not willing to fork out $249, thus is trolling the existing honest community from buying it.

junggIMO having used the HD 598 for about 8 years until I got the HD6XX, the HD 6XX is better in every way, including filling in the bass a bit (the 598s were lacking in bass). More neutral midrange, clearer highs, and much better mid and low bass.

kunalkumarSo by "most accessible price" are we to expect identical or "comparable" quality of parts to the 1st release? What QC assurances are being given that the increased volume of production inherently comes with the potential for less precise tolerances in the finished product? Did the vendor provide the breakdown which reasonable explained the increase in price to be able to timely meet production volumes and shipping targets?

kunalkumarTo anyone wondering: These headphones are still outstanding for $250, just not the steal they were at $200.
I've owned the HD 598s for about 8 years or more, and the HD6XX are just better in every way, especially bass. The midrange Is more neutral, the highs are silky smooth and even clearer, and the bass is more impactful, and is better volume wise and clarity. I would recommend these to anyone for $250. Granted I have not listened to the AKG/ Massdrop K7XX or the monoprice m1060s yet, at $200 and $300, so I can't comment there, but I would definitely pay $250 for these.

UnixRoninComparing with the current sale price AUD349 in Australia, the saving is actually less than $20. And if I will travel overseas in the next couple months, I can claim back 10% GST in airport making it even cheaper than this deal.
MaheshZAThe headphones are limited to one per person so there would need to be two accounts getting them separately. Also, in case of a mishap, we'd err on the side that since this is the same address, it most probably is the same person buying two headphones as we have not way to verify otherwise.
I don't have experience with freight forwarders myself, but based on what you wrote, I'd say that you both should apply to them separately.
Hope this helps.

sil3ntscr3amPlease, don't be offended by my comments on this particular drop. I have several Sennheiser samples as HD 598, 600, 700, 800. There are differences on materials used on this, if you compared to the original HD 650. NO need to probe my point you'll never believe it any way.

loklok_2123they will have a big sale next month.... usually a lot of product are on sale. Its difficult know if this item will be on sale but taking into consideration that new models are no stores, there is high possibilities that HD650 will be at large discount price. Good luck.
OdinkoAdd in the fact that these don't ship until december means you will get a shot at $280-$320 HD650's (usually) on Black Friday or before. I've owned the HD650's for about a decade and I can't say I recommend them for a first major headphone purpose but they are still fantastic headphones at the 350 and under price point.

kunalkumarCould you consider shipping directly from Ireland to customers inside EU (European Union)? It will probably reduce the cost for you even more and will definitely be great for all of us in EU since Ireland is a part of it! Please consider this option, after all, you have almost 6 months to make it work somehow. More money left in your pockets, and less out of ours, and a lot of satisfied customers!

2die4This was suggested way back on the first drop, but alas, it's a B2B decision that's out of our hands. I'm assuming it's an agreement by MD to collaborate/purchase from Senn, logistics & cost worked out with a cargo shipper (airfreight) to send to MD HQ for sorting and shipping.
Same goes for China made audio equipment sold on Amazon. It goes on a round trip from China-US-Asia since I'm from Singapore.

awi5951In my opinion, M560s are good but very different. They are brighter, detailed, precise, fast, and good soundstage with cups open. Totally a different beast. Both are good in different ways. They are easily worth 200, but save 100 and get the 1060. More bass.

Theta_ZeroDo these have any issues with the headphone cable? I had a pair of HD580s for many years and while I loved the sound, the cable issue drove me bananas and I've been using only AKGs and Beyers. As far as I understand the cable design is almost identical.

mrsimi suspect this drop is being done prio to the manufacturing run, so they dont have to take on any inventory risk, given the $ size of the drop (and they know it will sell out), and there is probably like a 4 month lead time with another month or two for QA or buffer in case something goes wrong. Why sit on a million bucks of inventory, and storage of said inventory (of which you will get only a % off the top) when you can sell it in advance and de-risk?

Shipping date is a separate matter on itself.
Basically, you'll be paying upfront and will have to wait for your item.

sockpuppyYou're correct, the HD 580s use the same cables as the HD 600/650/6XX. Sennheiser HAS upgraded the quality of their cables with more recent models, so you should be getting the newest version with this pair of headphones. That means slightly thicker and better quality cables, supposedly. But the cable style and pin-out itself will be identical, so while I'm not sure which cable issue you were having, you might see it with this as well.
There are a number of third-party cables on the market that offer custom sleeving etc. I'm not sure if they would solve your problem.

kunalkumarHave to admit @kunalkumar that I'm in agreement with @jedics. I never got to the checkout page - it was the checkout page that timed out for me. So despite having been on the page and trying to order I'll miss out on a 'First Access' invite anyhow.
Added to the AUD$80 markup and extra differentiators is pretty sad too - especially while keeping the 6ft cable - it's a cute length but considering the original orderers ended up with 2 cables for $199.99 the value for money has taken a serious hit - the HD650's are $387 AUD inc. shipping with local warranty which makes $330.6 for the HD 6XX's only worth it if you're a loyalist - especially given the 6 month wait to ship them.
Keen for your and Will's thoughts - a clear $50 does seem like a Sennheiser cash grab and something Massdrop's ethos was against.

Theta_ZeroFrom what I've been able to google it seems the cable issue I'm describing was particularly bad in the HD580/600 units produced through the early to mid 2000s. Some people are saying they redesigned the connection to minimize the issue. I'm still torn, this family of headphones sounds heartbreakingly good, but the intermittent connection drove me into a rage and I swore off Sennheiser forever. But I had a chance to listen to a pair in the store again earlier this year and I haven't stopped thinking about getting another pair.

osmijaIf you prefer a warmer sound signature then I would say yes. You should notice more bass than the 598s (if you're into that) and an overall better sound. I've no doubt that your Xonar can drive them. I get a very competent sound from my SoundBlaster Z headphone amp as well as from my Uber Schiit stack. It's just a different flavor of headphones from the 598s but I would say it's worth it. I've also got a pair of 558s and 598s and I definitely prefer the HD6XX for music.

loklok_2123Realistically I would say 5-10 years of frequent daily use is fair to expect. You can buy new parts from Sennheiser if something breaks. I'm highly skeptical of the "lifetime" claim, I've never had a pair of headphones last me longer than 8 years, even with parts replacement (obviously not counting headphones that sucked so bad I chucked them in a drawer and never used them). But I really do use my headphones. That's what I bought them for. Not to hang from a fancy mahogany headphone holder and take pictures of. And I'm monogamous - I'll have a primary pair and that's really my primary pair. Collectors may get more time out of theirs.
This is basically a machine with moving parts that you wear on your head, whether you think of it that way or not. Stuff wears, gets loose, eventually fails. As with a lot of machines with interchangeable parts which cost something to buy and ship, at some point you will look at it and say, is it really worth it for me to order yet another part given the overall condition? Or just move on and buy another?

kunalkumarDoes that mean there's a possibility that headphones will be delivered earlier than December 25th? It's mind boggling how purchasers have to wait 6 months for their headphones.
ItalianiceYes, there is a possibility. However, right now the estimated ship date of Dec 18th and the domestic delivery date of Dec 25th is what we are looking at. We'd love to get these in the community's hands as soon as possible and will keep on trying, but the delivery date is dependent on the production timeline.

kunalkumarMy feedback is that if you're getting them to shop 7.5k units then you'd have been better breaking them down into multiple shipment dates like the HiFiMan phones. Not making us wait til potentially *after* christmas - I mean now these don't even make a good Christmas present if you're a good way from the distribution warehouse. Especially if 3 months of that is waiting on a shipping container to get filled in China, sail across to the States, unpack, road haul/rail haul, unpack and then arranging them by ID #.
sil3ntscr3am

Jun 26, 2017
TigehQuite sure these ain't shipping from China mate.
I'm no expert on manufacturing but my guess is the production cost would increase if you break it down into multiple shipments. Hence the need for economy of scale.
And, if it doesn't make sense for you to buy due to wait time or cost, you don't have to. Many others are, and that's the point of such sales.

Murp@Murp Indeed you are right, anyway I think I have made my choice...passing this up and will look at Amazon and e-Bay in getting a pair. The wait time is really not worth it, I also assume in a month or 2 the prices will go down, so I might get them cheaper... 30 min passed the and not even a third has been bought yet. Looks like I'm not the only one disappointed with the price increase. :) My pair of HD497 died a few weeks back and the music doesn't sound the same with my gaming headset, that's why I was looking into this.

topsenNope, your eyes are not playing tricks on you.
But since you asked this question, you've obviously not been paying attention to the threads or lazy to Ctrl F anything.
Yes, delivery is in Dec 2017. Yes, it's $50 more than before. No, it doesn't ship to EVERYWHERE. Read the description for shipping details. Yes, you will get taxed if your country taxes import from other countries. Yes, this is a ridiculous wait and you can have it delivered faster if buying from Amazon. No, it is not unfair to consumers because if you sign up, you agree to the T&C. No, these HD6XX are not the best headphones but you'll be hard pressed to find any true negative reviews about them. Yes, for $250, you can get many other headphones out there.
Wew! Hope the next Ctrl F will find this!

kunalkumarAny chance MD-Senn will consider softening the price hike and long ship date "blows" by throwing in free short, 4ft cables? It's obvious from the many comments those two facts are the reason why this drop hasn't been flying off the shelves like the last drop. You guys might wanna give this a serious thought as, understandably, you aren't gonna budge on price or delivery date. And, some of us could use short cables. That is one feature I love most about my ATH M50x with its 3 cables of differing lengths. Just a thought!

1LuvTechI hope that would happen for second droppers, I truly do.
Reason the longer cable was sent out to first droppers because the short cable was shorter than advertised and as a gesture of goodwill, Senn sent out a longer cable to all.

kunalkumarHey kunalkumar, thank you an your company for the drop, and being very responsive . However, I don't think that you thought this one trough very well. When the drop ends, I am curious to see how many of your customers are actually from EU? My guess, from what I'm reading here - close to 40% . But I would really like to know a real number here. For that many customers, wouldn't it be nice to actually open up a "company" in here, and handle the shipping from EU to EU without import? I'm sure that it would be worth your while rather than hauling everything to US and back. Where to open it ? Ummm I don't know - here in Luxembourg perhaps? It's a tax heaven, and opening a company - even a non existing one with just an address (if you wish) is reaaal easy here. I volunteer to help! There is time to think it trough until December.
Just a thought.
Give us from EU some love. USA is not the center of the world you know :).
