I cancelled this purchase and bought the much better headphones HIFIMAN he-400i for $220 on Ebay.
I suggest you do the same.
Have fun with no warranty.
I never had to use warranty on anything in my entire life.
That's some terrible logic. Especially since Hifiman has a questionable reputation.
I have HD650 and Hifiman 400i. They are different, very different. For music I like HD650, for pops (pretty much all songs), I go for Hifiman.
Hifiman's known for godawful quality control. I hope you don't end up getting screwed.
And the 220 listing isn't even from an Official Dealer. The Hifiman listing for the same headphones specifically mentions that seller not being authorized. He very well may receive fakes.
I know where you're coming from but I'm with @Specte on this one. Hopefully you still have at least a year warranty on your 400i purchase. I got them for that price about a year ago and the stock cable started causing audio cutouts a few months after that. The warranty cable replacement worked out alright but I also feel Hifiman's QC is questionable. Great price though so finger's crossed.
As for this drop, the $50 price increase and the wacky shipping time would be off-putting for me if I was even interested. Now Massdrop might not have had much of a say in the matter but I've been stating this for a while, they really need to do something about these long ship times. For these products a 1 month ship time is fine IMO but 6 months is bonkers in this day and age. They should really try to only run the drops when the item in stock, as the demand has been already proven.
Nah. The 400's were fun for sure, and interesting for a low-end orthostatic, but hd650s are way more capable and engaging if amped adequately.
They are $250 on amazon with warranty. I have also never needed a warranty in my life.
I got the 400i about 7 or 8 months ago, haven't had a single issue with them so I hope that I'm not just lucky at that perhaps the QC is doing better these days.
Either way, they are my favorite headphones for most music out of themselves and the 712 Pro, X2 and TH-x00 PH.
Anybody who thinks those planar headphones are "much" better than the hd650s is not amplifying the higher impedance sennheisers effectively.
