With that sort of lead time you could take 500 of us MassDroppees to Ireland - train us and build the entire run in a few weeks. But, then you have the problem of getting us out of Ireland and its pubs. So there's that.

NearfieldingHa, thanks for your post. I wish it was as simple as getting 500 more people at their facility in ireland, but the time comes from further up the supply chain. The assembly step only takes a couple weeks, it's the parts suppliers that cause the long lead times (remember how replacement cables took six months?)
For reference, the first run took as long to make, we just offered them to the community later in the process. This wait is the same as that wait, but now you know you're waiting vs blissful ignorance. It's six of one half a dozen of the other in objective terms, but that's not how it feels as a consumer.

Can someone please answer me this as it's either 1. Massdrop want to make some more money from international buyers which they wouldn't be making from the $250 or 2. Massdrop are lying about the sennheiser price increase in the first place and they just wanted to make some more money off it and now they have dropped it still want to recoup money from shipping? SamillsPaypal automatically cancels transactions that take too long to process, therefore massdrop is forced to charge Paypal sooner. This is a flaw of Paypal not Massdrop. Every Paypal transaction is a secure authorization made by you (you have to log in to make the payment), and Massdrop can't wait months because they can't login to your paypal for you.
As far as the price, yes, there will either be a refund/credit on paypal if it already debited, or will change to 199.99 (+ shipping if international) if still in authorization when it comes time to charge.

I want them, but that's such a long wait. September 1 ship date would make me a 100% for sure buyer, anything later than that is kinda iffy. PLEASE work on a sooner date

octavecatThey are pretty similar to the HD600, they do not have the ~ 3-4 KHz spike that the HD600 do and extend slightly deeper in the bass. Unless you were switching them back and forth most people would probably not be able to tell the difference.

WillSince the EU-bound products would be going from the EU to the US and back again (with hefty customs both ways), is there any way you guys can organise shipping for the EU contingent separately, without having them leave the EU?
I don't know about the overhead for organisational costs, but I imagine this would at least save Sennheiser the EU to US import taxes for that batch, and would save us Europeans the needless import overhead, considering there are no customs within the EU.

dadof4This drop doesn't ship to SG. You need to send it to your freight forwarder's address for this drop. Then, your FF will ship it to you.

With regards to the long waiting time, I am quite sure most people are not familiar with how Massdrop operates.It wasn't designed in the image of eBay or Amazon. The reason we are getting such competitive prices from MD is because of the fact that all of the our orders are gathered in bulk. This is basic economics, more order, more overall profit, lower price.
We are already enjoying an absolutely absurd discount of more than 50%, with free shipping for the folks in the states (I'm in the EU)..Of course you can say stuff the 6 months wait isnt worth it as you can prob purchase it on the spot on Amazon or what, Well my answer to you is then go and purchase it on Amazon. I am sick and tired of people blasting MD in their own forum..terribly toxic for the audio community.
And with regards to the us EU folks, the VAT and import tax is really a pain the arse but hey, even calculated with the highest rates in EU (say 20-21%), we are still paying a net of around 250-260 USD. And that is a huge ass discount as well! Of course the handling fees could be even lower if MD *cough* use USPS instead of *cough* DHL.

SinetwoYes, anything that comes from outside the EU. There is no VAT on the US pricing, so you will need to pay 20% on that, then there's customs duty, which I believe is 1.5%. Then (and thats what my Q relates to) a company (be it Parcel Force/Royal Mail/etc) pay the fees on our behalf, then send you a card with instructions to pay. Then they deliver. They charge a flat fee for this service, so I'm wondering WHO will be instructed for delivery. Parcelforce will charge a flat £8/13.50 depending on the delivery type.
Based on my calculations it should be in total around £215 (166*1.2*1.015+13.5)

KanhirDoes Massdrop have to pay import duty when they bring these into the US? They almost certainly don't have to pay sales tax since the US doesn't have federal sales tax.
If either Sennheiser or Massdrop shipped these to EU customers direct from Ireland then they'd have to charge GST/VAT on top of the sale price, and they haven't done that so there's no chance of shipping direct from Ireland now even if they had the facility to do so.

However, that amount has already been charge to my debit card and deducted from my bank account. They said I had one of two options. Cancel the current order and repurchased the item for $199.99 or request a refund from Massdrop of $50.00. I assume the second option will apply here. Is this correct?

If I may suggest, you would probably sell even more/faster if the drop is easy to find. When I click on "Audiophile" the drop is nowhere to be found, I have to change from "Discover" which is the default to "Drops" To find the HD 6xx. A little earlier it sais "ended". So some little glitch, your guys are probably aware of it but it's how it is. Congrats on getting that great price.

I know MD does everything in their power to get us the best deal possible, and I appreciate all the work and dedication that went into making this possible, both on Massdrop's and Sennheiser's part. The only thing more that I'd like to see done is Massdrop listing the customs code for these headphones so that I can get some idea how much will I need to pay after they arrive at customs clearance in my country.

The big issue is, they are sending them via DHL, which doesn't even give you a chance to go through customs yourself (even if its pain in hell) and they charge 2% of the package price (min. 19€!) just because they deal with it for ya... I Its sad as postal service charges only about 8€ for same service...
So yeah, two big price increases are TAX and somebody else going through customs for you even if you do not want them to. That means that for me it was probably my last drop I was a part of for a long time, as their drops usually are not that good to be worth trying to order from MD in EU.
Right now I paid 383,74 € for 2x HD 6XX, which is 191,87 € for pair of headphones including shipping. That isn't bad as they cost 350€ here, but once you include 21% TAX, its 232,1627 €, then add 3% customs (239,127581 € ) and 2% or 19€ that DHL will take and you are at 258,127581 € for one pair of headphones or 497,255162 € for two of them ( 113,515162 € paid on TAX and customs and to DHL)...

SamillsThat's probably the bank blocking the money on your account so that it's available when MD collects the payments, the difference should be made available to you after the actual payment is processed. However I'd suggest you confirm that with your bank, and if they say that the $249,99 is the processed payment, contact Massdrop support.

I'm kinda OK with the wait, as I bought a pair of HE 400i (should get them next week) due to the price increase. And combining the price + import tax + VAT and adding a 6 month wait time to that just didn't cut it for me. But when they reduced the price I just had to buy a pair of these as well.

WillHow do the HD 6XXs sound compared to the Audio Technica ATH-M50s? I ask because I own a pair of M50s and I want to know how much better they sound. The M50s are my first "high quality" pair of headphones. Before I purchased these headphones, I used cheap earbuds ranging from $10 to $50. I consider my M50s "high quality" compared to these because the sound quality is a little bit better, they are more comfortable, and the build quality is exceptionally better. Every pair of earbuds I've ever owned have only lasted me a few months before breaking. However, I purchased my M50s 3 1/2 years ago and they are still like new. The ear pads are a little worn out but everything else is in mint condition. As for the sound quality, after all the reviews I've read, I expected better. The sound quality is great but not enough to wow me. As for comfort, that is a completely different experience between in-ear and over-ear headphones; However, I will admit that the M50s are more comfortable than some of the earbuds I've owned. Now I've read from many sources that the 6XX or 650s are the best headphones to buy for less than $1000. At that price, I expect world class quality. I already purchased a pair of 6XXs during this second drop and I was thinking of pairing these with the Schiit Jotunheim amp/DAC. Is it worth it for me to spend $500 on this amp or can I get the same sound quality or better from a budget amp? Also, should I get a tube amp or a solid state? If so, which would you recommend? I would like an amp/DAC that has a 1/4 inch input, a 4-pin XLR balanced input, is versatile with all headphones, and can connect to my laptop via USB. My budget is $500 or less. Portability is not neccesary because I will be listening to my 6XX at home. Lastly, what genre of music are these headphones best for? I listen to mostly EDM, and a little bit of pop.
