Any Canadians with advice on shopping for a decent amp for these? I'm on somewhat of a limited budget so my plan with the long wait was to keep an eye on canuckaudiomart and wait for black Friday/boxing day deals

If you get an answer let me know. I started going down the rabbit hole and realize I know virtually nothing about any of this.

I bought a Dragonfly Red for usage with iPad, iPhone and my Macbook Pro: 249$ CAD. Very good match with HD650/6xx. You must also buy the usb3 camera adaptor from Apple, 60$ if I recall. I am also getting an O2 amp from Massdrop, 89$ USD if I remember, but you may buy it directly from JDS Labs on their Web site. Another safe bet is the Schiit Magni or Magni Uber. Both the O2 and Schiit may be bought with a corresponding DAC. All of these three complete Amp/Dac solutions are available at about 300-325$ CAD more or less.

Check out the Schiit Magni 2 Uber combined with the Schiit Modi 2 or the Schiit Jotunheim. With these cans, you'll be in seventh heaven.

I might just use my built in sound card in my motherboard for now. I think it's pretty decent and can push a max of 600 ohm to the headphone. I have a 598se right now and it sounds pretty clean, good volume and no hissing, but then that headphone is 50ohm.

Computer integrated sound cards often but not always produce low to low-mid fi. If you are using a computer and are on a budget, I recommend that you look at the Dragonfly Black (Dac/amp all in one combo) which gomfor 129$ CAD In most canadian retailers. Or you may buy a JDS O2 amp or Schiit Magni amp which both go for around 100$ USD (135-140$ CAD) on their respective manufacturers website. In the later case you may buy the corresponding DAC at a later time...

Hmm, is the difference that striking for a casual listener like me? I might get it down the road that. I wish I have someone who has an o2 so that I can test it later down the road.

Thanks for the suggestions! Am I right in thinking the amp is going to be the more important purchase (vs DAC)? From what I've read, it seems like I'm better off getting just the magni/magni uber than getting say, the fulla 2, at the same price. I could probably do the stack, just hurts a little to pay more than the headphones

From what I have read, some people have been satisfied with the Fulla2 Dac/Amp + HD6xx. In my case, I know that the output of my iPad Pro and iPhone 6s are quite clean and the inboard DAC in them is of high quality, so I may use only an amp from the output in order to increase the output voltage for the HD6xx. So an outboard DAC may be preferable but not as critical in my setup. In your case it all depends of your computer, onboard DAC and output of your sound card... but if on a budget you could start with the amp and buy the Dac later. I can only guess that the quality of the Magni/Modi Uber or not Uber combos and the Fulla2 are probably comparable, however the Fulla2 is capable of less power output (in mW). Does it make a difference for the output listening volume of a 300 ohm headphone like the HD6xx? Maybe yes, maybe not, depends of your level of listening preference (volume)...
