Okay so I have joined this drop a couple weeks ago but was looking online for a pair to get sooner than sometime in April. Someone is selling their HD600 mint condition for $300 (the 6XX would be $270 Canadian for me) and messaged me about them. Is there any reason to choose the 600 over the 6XX?
The only good reason is if you are in a rush to get them. But seriously, if you can wait, you will be glad you did in a few weeks.
I’m on your camp. What I did was I ordered the AKG 7XX here on Massdrop for $200 and they are incredible as well. They compete with 6XX. I’m hoping to compare both once my 6XX arrive.
Btw, the 6XX are a replica of the HD650 and not the HD600. Your probably aware of that, but just adding that information. Sorry if I offend you in any way.
Yeah I know they're different. Which one is better i guess is up for debate.
I'm not in a rush per-se. I do have 598s right now. But another three months is still a while away.
You can get close to 2 pairs on Massdrop for the price of one on Amazon if you accept the delay. It’s your choice, it’s your money. On another subject, I have the 598s too, and I haven’t used them since I received my first pair of 6xx Before Christmas 2016 (more than a year ago). The 598s have been litteraly untouched since then....
Well that will be potentially the same for me. I don't need multiple headphones. Guess I'll find out when I receive my 6XX.
There you are. Have fun with your 6xx.
I also have the HD598 and they were great. Great soundstage. Once I got my AkG 7XX I never touched my HD598’s again, maybe to compare for a bit. Although they are great, I feel the AKG’s are better in every way. I think the soundstage I might give to 598, but not sure.
I've looked at those 7XX as well. Only 21 hours left in the drop. Would it be worth dropping another $199 on those headphones also? Also looking at the 58X.
Do you just use the stock pads on the 6XX?
Oh yes, only stock pad. I read so many testimonials of people that tried to change the pads and the general consensus is that the best sounding pads are the stock pads. And they are comfortable.
They come and go every day. The drops are for now continuous for the 7xx, they have been for a while now on Massdrop. Same for the Fostex. These have a kind of special status at Massdrop and the drops are renewed every day. It is not the case for the Sennheisers
Hmm okay. Guess I'll try the stock pads first and see how it goes. Have you tried the AKG 7XX? I've also been looking at the Sennheiser 58X as well.
no I haven’t tried them. They are supposed to be a lot brighter than the Sennheisers. That doesn’t push me to try them... but I should
I do like a bit of warmth in the sound but I don't like it bass heavy. The bass level of the 598 is plenty for me.
I understand. The 6xx are not bass heavy, “they are not for bassheads” as they say, but they have bass with more authority than the 598. This shouldn't stop you however. But the 6xx are probably less bright than your AKG. As for the 58x, I just don’t know. Too early to say. Again they are apparently the brightest of the Senn 600 series, and they have the least bass of the series also. i’m not sure for me...
and then again Massdrop asked Sennheiser to extend the bass for the production models. So now, only a pre-prod model exists, and the final tuning is not yet settled. So I prefer to wait a bit.
I’m not sure if it would be worth dropping another $199 for the AKG 7XX. It really comes down to what you want. Are you planning on making a small collection of headphones? From what I understand, both 7XX and 6XX are nuetral focoused headphones with differences here and there.
Here’s what I want to do. I’ll probably keep both to compare and use them for specific genres or maybe I’ll sell one of them and keep which one is best for my liking.
My my main goal is to keep a satisfying headphone until there’s a Massdrop on a end-game headphone for me, like the Sennheiser HD800, Audeze LCD-X or ZMF Auteur.
Hey, so since placing the order for the HD6XX's, I've kept my ears open (no pun intended) for anything regarding Sennheiser headphones. From what I understand, the 600's are more accurate and the 6XX's add a bit of "musicality" to the sound. Many people do prefer the 600's to the 6XX's. However it seems to be personal preference. There's an interesting guy on youtube called "Z Reviews" that does a couple comparisons. He has a funky way of reviewing audio products, but is pretty informative. He's done a couple 600 vs 650 comparisons.
