Been looking at the O2 Amp and Dac for these headphones. Seems like good value. Any advice?
Great value and product, but you might find yourself wanting more power. Have you looked at the Magni/Modi stack combo from Schiit? Or even the Aune X1S? My pick out of the 3 (Odac, Schiit, and Aune) would have to be Aune. The dac is absolutely incredible and does magical things with soundstage and imaging I didn't know was possible, and it's very smooth. Plus, the power output is about the same as the O2+ODAC (88mW @ 600ohms per channel) but if you like your music loud go with the Schiit Magni (430 mW @ 300ohms per channnel RMS). That should accommodate. I recommend you take a good look at the Aune X1S. I think that one just poos all over the O2+ODAC.
OL DAC from JDS Labs measures well[Better than ODAC, and cheaper], is self powered to help avoid USB-noise, and stacks with the O2 Amp. It's a very solid DAC and Amp combo for the money. If you want pure measurements and input versatility, the Topping D30 DAC is great. The A30 Amp is decent, but I don't recommend it for the 10 ohm output impedance(Doesn't matter on the 6XX, might if you get under 80ohm headphones). Would go fine with an O2 if you don't care about matching aesthetics as much.
But yeah, O2 is fine, has way more power than you need for the 6XX. The 6XX are very sensitive and even something like an E10k can get them louder than you should listen to.
Haven't even heard of the Aune. Will give a suss, thanks heaps.
Will give a good look at these Amps. Thanks heaps.
And by the way--it's pronounced Oh-knee.
I was hoping I wasn't sounding like an idiot to my friends, but turns out I was.. I hate pronouncing things wrong. Thanks for the correction!
I doubt your friends knew the pronunciation either--and neither did I until very recently!
