So... It's cool that these are *kinda like* bespoke headphones for MD members... and no one disputes the quality and well-deserved cult following of the HD 6XX... but DAY-UM, 3-4 month lead time is rrrrrreally stretching the boundaries of what should be reasonably expected for this kind of transaction. It just seems as though maybe the quantities should have been limited initially, and/or maybe the production forecast could have been more realistic. I mean, Sennheiser is not a mom & pop operation - I'd assume their supply chain and production capacity are pretty predictable and well understood. And the demand for this kind of offering likewise should also have been pretty easy to predict.
Anyway, just venting my impatience... :)

Part of the reason they are able to get the price so low is that through a service like Massdrop you can eliminate the risk, cost of storing and distributing your product ahead of time by getting an exact production number that ships directly out. Its the same reason a lot of companies are using things like Kickstarter to get a "head count," collect the money up front, and then mass produce a certain number of their product.
But I feel you! I am still anxiously awaiting since November

" I'd assume their supply chain and production capacity are pretty predictable and well understood. " I think that's exactly why there's a 3 month lead time... That's about 100 units a day, and assuming they do some kind of QA on each unit, that's still a pretty fast production speed. And that's not even accounting for how much of that lead time is added by Massdrop.
